Without and Daydreams

School was gruelling.

Why?

My beautiful Rosa was

Sick.

Or so they said...

I text her.

No answer.

Maybe she really is sick.

I zoned out and daydreamed.

Suddenly, Rosa and I were

Running to a house.

It was storming.

Hard.

She pulled me to her and kissed me.

"Ansel!" My teacher yells.

I jerk forward.

No one was in the classroom.

"Son, school was over ten minutes ago."

I nod slightly

And pick up my books.

Running outside, I realize

I missed the bus.
Crap.

I walk to Leef Street

To the coffee shop

Where Rosa and I went yesterday.

It smelled like a big coffee pot.
Duh.

My mind was not screwed on right.

I saw a girl and froze.
Rosa.

I slid into the seat in front of her.

She is startled then blushes,

Pushing a strand of hair behind her ear.
I could've done that.

"What are you doing here?" She asks.

Her face is puffy,

Her eyes are swollen.

She's still beautiful.

Out of the corner of my eye,

I see Plain Face wearing a scowl in my direction.
Ugh. Back off.

"What are you doing here?"

She shrugs but bites her bottom lip.

"Why weren't you at school?" I ask.

She wipes away a stray tear,

And I slip in beside her,

Wrapping her into my arms.

She pulls back but leaves her hands on my chest.

She stares.
Oh, dear Rosa, why can't see how blissfully amazing you are?

Baggy clothes are once again draped over her.

Her face has no make-up (her wisest decision).

I know I'm staring,

And I know she knows I'm staring,

But I couldn't care less.

"I have to tell you something," she whispers.

I touch her cheek

Watching how she leans into my hand.

"Okay," I whisper back.

She takes a deep breath and just looks at me.

"It's a long story."
