She was so happy. Ecstatic, even. She felt so excited she couldn't stand it. There was no way she was on a pokémon journey right now. There was no way that she was out in the wilderness with her starter, making their way from town to town.

Her darling Mudkip, her first ever pokémon, proved himself to be a capable fighter. He took out most wild pokémon with ease. And, they had even won a few battles together. With all of this experience under their belts, they'd be ready to take on the gym challenge in no time.

But for now, May was looking to expand her team. She knew it couldn't be just her and Mudkip forever. As they travelled around, she kept her eyes open for any appealing pokémon. And yet, all she ever came across were Zigzagoon, Poochyena, and the occasional Wurmple.

The duo trudged through Route 102, keeping their eyes peeled for anything interesting. Something floating on the surface of a small pond nearby caught May's attention. She tiptoed closer, intrigued by this mystery object.

It was a lone lily pad, floating by itself on the edge of this pond. May knelt down to take a closer look. How peculiar is it for one lily pad to be here, all by itself? She certainly wasn't expecting it to raise up and reveal a face to her, either. She yelped, and shouted to Mudkip, "Tackle it!"

Mudkip dove into the water and leaped onto the pokémon, pushing it underneath the surface. Then, he bumped it back up and out onto the shore. The strange, lily pad-like pokémon was blue underneath, with big saucer eyes and a tiny body. Its mouth was like a beak, gaping wide open with shock. More than likely, it didn't expect these attacks at all.

She wanted to catch it off-guard. May took a spare poké ball out of her rucksack and tossed it. The pokémon disappeared inside with a flash of light. The capsule rocked back and forth once, twice, a third time...

And, it flashed.

"Wahoo!" May shouted, leaping up into the air. "That was so easy!" She picked the poké ball up, examining the red-and-white sphere closely. This was it: the second member to her team! She was so happy and way beyond excited. Together, they'd all be even stronger than before.

May was just glowing with happiness. So far, her journey had been perfect. Why did she wait so long, anyway? This was everything she had ever wanted. She, Mudkip, and her new Lotad headed off towards Petalburg City. If they hurried, they'd make it before nightfall. They could spend the night in the Poké Center there, and start yet another perfect day come morning.
