Smooth and shiny. Metallic. Cool to the touch. Her badge collection was so beautiful. And, it was growing even bigger and bigger. Her fourth badge, a blazing red emblem of a flame, filled the final spot in the first row.

She called her mom over a videophone, and she showed her the collection of beautiful and sparkling badges. Her eyes were gleaming and wet with tears. "May," her mother started, "I'm so proud of you. I can't wait to tell your dad about this!"

Her pokémon ate their dinner from chrome food bowls. Marshtomp's skin was slightly damp, and it had the faintest bit of a sheen to it. But Lombre's was very slick and appeared glossy underneath the bright fluorescent lights. The newest edition to her team, a tiny Taillow, had soft, sleek, and shiny feathers.

Earlier today, May's face was glistening with sweat. The sun was hot, and the active volcano nearby didn't help anything. The rocks that made up the entrance to a cave just barely shimmered in the light. She wipes the sweat from her brow, and carries on.

Another badge was waiting for her all the way in Petalburg City. If all went well, it would be her fifth. And, that badge would be obtained from her own dad. She could see it now, earning yet another victory while standing on varnished and polished wooden floors.

As night fell, stars appeared in the sky. They were tiny, twinkling lights way beyond her reach. If she followed the biggest and most glowiest star up there, she would be headed right for Mauville City. From a distance, she can see the bright lights of the city.

Everywhere she looked, everything sparkled. Her journey so far had been filled with nothing but light. Her future had never looked brighter, and it had never looked better.
