Chapter 5: The Entrance Exam
Storm and I arrived at UA and got changed into our exam uniforms. We entered the exam zone and worked together to take out as many robots as we could. Then, a huge robot started coming towards a girl who had been trapped under some rubble. I looked closer and recognized the girl, she had introduced herself to Red and me when we first arrived. I went and grabbed the girl and started getting her out of the rubble while red used her darkness to crush the robot.
After the exam, we were called to the examiner's office. "You cheated, didn't you? Just come clean and we won't have to take legal action." What!? Cheated? We didn't cheat and I didn't see how they could think that. That's when I realized... they didn't think a quirkless kid like me could've taken out that many robots.
"You too got the top scores, that's impossible for a quirkless kid and a villain kid." Villain kid? I was confused but then I saw the expression on Red's face. They were calling Red a villain because of their quirk. I was infuriated; I slammed my fist on his the examiner's desk and called him a bunch of things that I won't repeat. Red had to drag me out of his office. A couple of weeks later, we received letters from UA, they said we wouldn't be accepted because we cheated and that we blew up on an examiner.
I hated myself, not only did I not get accepted, I made it so Red couldn't be accepted either. Storm sat me down and told me it wasn't my fault and that we likely wouldn't have been accepted either way. I knew this but deep down I still resented myself a little bit. We spent the next few days in our room, we didn't eat or sleep much. That's when my mom intervened. "Get up off your sorry asses and start training!" I was completely shocked as I had never seen my mother cuss and it seemed Red was confused too.
My mom made us a large lunch full of protein and motivated us to start our training again. We set up some exercise equipment in the living room and began exercising. We trained as hard as we could. I focused on combat skills while Red focused on improving their movement skills to evade the police. We figured that they would need it as they would be doing more of the distractions and face-to-face combat.
We finished creating Red's fake documents and we found someone on the dark web who could hack into government databases and legalize them "officially." They called themselves "Shockwave" and they specialized in Vigilante work, renting out their services to Vigilantes, which we now fit under that description due to the sludge villain incident, though we had not been officially recognized by the Hero Commission as Vigilantes yet.
