Chapter 9: A Forgotten Promise

I was searching through a box of old trinkets when I came across a tiny box. I opened it and inside was the limited edition all might card. I had taken down all my All Might posters and sold most of my memorabilia to help fund our Vigilante missions. But this card, this card I would keep. Not because of All Might but because of Kacchan. We had gotten the same limited edition card and made a promise to enter UA together before he got his quirk and I found out I was quirkless.

I had forgotten about that promise when I decided to stop looking up to Kacchan, but I still cared for him and I would never stop. I heard he had gotten into UA. I was proud of him but there was still that intense resentment I felt. He achieved MY DREAM simply because he had a powerful quirk. I no longer wished to go to UA after finding out how prejudiced they were about quirks.

I'm actually somewhat glad I was born quirkless or I may have never found out how awful hero society is and became a vigilante. Though being quirkless has its disadvantages, it has led me to where I am now. I am proud of who I am and I wish I had been when I was younger. UA starts its first semester soon, in a few weeks. I'm 15 now, Red won't turn 15 till April.

My birthday was pretty relaxed. My mom made Red and me a cake and Red got me bright red sneakers, similar to their hair color. I was actually really surprised because red is my favorite color and I had no idea they knew, I had mentioned it in passing when I first met them and was talking about their hair. I'm glad to have made a friend like them.

I also received a gift from Kacchan. It was kind of weird, I hadn't seen him in almost a year and suddenly I was receiving a birthday gift from him. A small orange box with a black ribbon arrived on my doorstep and it was addressed to Izuku - not Deku. Weirdly, that made me extremely happy. I had thought I had moved on but that ended up not being true. I pulled the ribbon and the bow came loose. I slowly opened up the box and found a small silver All-Might locket. I've hated All Might since the rooftop incident, I guess he wouldn't have known that because we haven't seen each other since. I opened the clasp and inside was a picture from just before he got his quirk, the last time we could truly call ourselves Friends...
