Chapter 8: A Broken Promise

I haven't seen Deku since the sludge villain attack, the day he saved me. I remember him and another kid with red hair running into action when none of the heroes would. I was praised after the incident for my "bravery" but the people who were actually brave were Deku and his friend. I saw them being reprimanded but the real people who should have been reprimanded were the heroes for not doing their job and saving me to the point where a couple of middle schoolers had to.

I waited for him at school the next day, I wanted to talk to him; I needed to apologize for the years of abuse I put him through. Needless to say, he didn't show. I assumed he was sick but he didn't show up the next day, or the next, or the next, and so on. I eventually asked the teacher and he told me that Deku had dropped out. My head spun in circles, was this my fault!?

Of course, it was, I thought. I had gone too far... I had told him to kill himself. I dropped my friend group I had been bullying Deku, no... Izuku, with. I became a bit of a loner and I focused on my studies. I would become a hero Izuku could be proud of and then I would apologize. I trained hard for the entrance exam and studied for the written exam.

I took the entrance exam and waited for the rejection. That's when I received the letter, I got into UA! I was so proud of myself but I was also filled with an overwhelming sadness. I remembered that promise Izuku and I had made as kids. We promised each other we would get into UA together before anyone's quirk appeared. Izuku probably didn't even remember that promise.

We had been close before he was deemed quirkless. I miss those days. I miss it when we would play without worries. Our mothers were best friends, I called his mom, auntie. When he dropped out we stopped seeing the Midoriya family altogether. I asked the old hag about it and she blew up on me, her eyes full of tears. She yelled at me that Auntie had stopped talking to her when she found out I had been bullying Izuku. That's when I realized my actions had true consequences, my mom had lost her best friend because of me, and I had lost mine.
