"Shit." She had prepared for a little jerk, but she didn't know it would hurt so bad. She cursed under her breath as she looked up finally. the window to her ridiculously lavish room was open wide, a trail of rope lead down to the ground, a few feet above.
Ye Eun hissed as she felt dried leaves crumble under her feet, she never understood why this part of her garden was always left untamed. "Eun!" She heard a soft voice from above. If it wasn't for the dead of the night she would've never heard her.
A small head peeked out of her window. "Exactly two hours! I'll tell Master if you don't show up at 2!" She hushed.
Her wrinkly eyes narrowed as she frowned. Anne always cared too much...
Ye Eun grinned showing the older lady a thumbs up. "Now for the love of god pull this up!" Anne rolled her eyes as she pulled the rope back which slung in the air like a snake. Eun's hazel eyes shined one last time as she blew a kiss to Anne before charging towards the bush and picking her feet towards the forest.
She wouldn't lie, those tall oaks always seemed way more intimidating from up close, from her room they were just tiny bushes, she looked back at her father's 'castle' before she scoffed. "I hate you." She mouthed ever so proudly as if she knew her father could see her. With that, she stepped into the forest.
"Don't go there..."
"It's filled with large tawny beasts!"
"They eat human flesh!"
"If you go there! You will die!"Bullshit.
Everyone told her to stay away from the woods, there were many stories, and every question that went by the words- "The forest."- invited those stories. She still remembers asking her father, it was the only time she didn't hear ridiculous folklore.
She was 14, unaware of her fathers's tactics.
A little princess in his castle.
He was always too busy to spend time with her, having silent lunch at the never-ending dining table was the only time she saw him in a day.
She never complained.
Never been to school, she was told it was not a place meant for women of high statures like herself, she did learn to read and write though, in the confines of her mansion...
After receiving unclear answers as to why the beautiful forest was forbidden. She made up her mind, she would ask her father.
"Father, may... I ask you a question?" He sighed, his charcoal black eyes blinking twice in distaste without raising his eyes from the document. "Make it brief, Ye Eun."
She looked down, biting her lips. "Why are we not allowed in the woods?"
The pen which was aggressively jotting something down on the paper slipped out of his hands as he looked at his daughter, it would've been stupid of him to believe she wouldn't be curious at one point.
Ye Eun gulped as he stared at her emotionlessly. "Unimaginably horrifying beasts reside there. They will tear you apart, and eat your flesh while you are still alive."
The gruesome image of the forest and its creature that was painted into Eun's mind as a child was unfortunately not enough for her to stay away from the forest.
