She took the books and one by one she put them on the shelf in a fashionable order before sighing after placing the last book. This library used to be a jewel, a gold mine for all types of readers and writers, a piece of history. Now it’s a lifeless land filled with unread books and her thoughts. But some things are worth the advantages. She took the handle of the heavy cart and ran freely, her brown hair with a permanent green fade flying while she did so. One aisle to the next and next the young girl continued till making it to a dead end. An earthy smell with a hint of vanilla filled her nose making her look over to see where the scent was coming from. Old books. Strange, she doesn’t remember seeing the section though she was curious about what the books before her held.

She gently set the book cart aside and went up to the huge bookshelf and looked through them. Her finger touched every rim of each book as she walked by, fiction, nonfiction, mystery, history… The list was long and soon enough she made it to her favorite type of books, Action Romance. What was even more strange than finding out about these old books is that there was only one in this genre and it held a blank cover but was colored with a dark red leatherette. The curiosity that built up in her body was finally released once she picked up the book, almost coughing in the process due to the dust that built up before opening it. Blank. How convenient. She flipped through the pages watching them fall but the only thing she found was the smell of an old room and a single dust bunny.

A soft thud was heard when she put back the book in its rightful place and ventured back to the book cart right after to continue on her main task which was getting the library books that were currently on the cart back to their places. She couldn't go far though because it was like something stopped the cart from moving. Attempt after attempt she tried to push it but it seemed it would hardly budge no matter how hard she pushed. The library was filled with her grunts as she pushed the cart, every time harder than the last but soon enough she gave up and sat on the ground. So many strange things are happening today. She was about to stand and try again but noticed the wheels on the cart, in fact there were no wheels at all. “What the..” She muttered standing up again and stretching.

Mid-stretch the sound of a bird singing caught her ears making her head turn instantly to the source. There were no birds in sight so where was the noise coming from? Suddenly she jumped seeing the book she opened a few seconds ago open itself, a blinding white glow producing from it. The sound of even more birds chirping and even more noises like leaves drifting with the soft wind and even a cat mewling were taking over her hearing. Interest peaked as she slowly moved closer to the light and the more she did the louder and brighter it got. It was right there, right in front of her. She could have sworn she was hearing music as peaceful as crickets in the night but she got too close. It was like her atoms were being torn apart and the book was taking her in like a black hole, not saying she knew what that felt like in the first place. The book closed with a thud and the library was now silent.
