I'll say, will you marry me?
I swear that I will mean it
I'll say, will you marry me?
___
The plan is simple. Distract the walkers inside the field so that they can set traps.
Daryl and Rosanna sit in the back of the truck. Glenn drives.
Michonne gets out to take down a few walkers as Daryl and Rosanna throw the barbed wire spikes into the grass. They hammer them in and hop back in the truck.
Beth, Maggie and Carl distract the walkers by the fence line. Tyreese waits by the gate to let them back in. Rick and Sasha stay watch with the guns.
Once back inside the courtyard, Glenn speaks. "They try to drive up to the gate again, maybe some blown tires will stop them. That's a good idea."
Daryl looks at Rick. "It was Michonne's."
Michonne shrugs. "We just have to make their getting at us more trouble than it's worth."
___
Rosanna is fixing a gate when Daryl walks up. "Hey. You seen Merle around?"
She says nothing and he comes up beside her to help with the gate.
He glances at her. "He say he was sorry yet? Cause he is. He's gonna make it right. I'm gonna make him. There's got to be a way. Just needs to be a little forgiveness is all."
She clenches her jaw. "He brought me to a man who assaulted me. Humiliated me. Made me kill my own brother after I just watched him kill Archer. He tied Glenn to a chair. Beat him. Threw a walker in the room. And to add a cherry on top of that chocolate shit sundae, he took you away."
"Red, I-"
"Don't, Daryl. You left. I pleaded with you to stay. I get that he's your brother, but we are your family. Not him. He was never there for you. We were. You left us alone."
With that, she turns and leaves him outside.
___
Glenn walks into Hershel's cell and sits down on a bucket. Hershel looks at him.
"I want to marry Rose. And we don't have to have a wedding. I don't even know if we'll last the week. But I want her to know before... who knows? I- I know that you aren't her father, but you do love her like one. I was just hoping-"
Hershel cuts him off. "You have my blessing."
Glenn nods and hugs Hershel. "Thank you."
___
"Hey."
Rosanna turns around to see Glenn. "Hey." She smiles.
Glenn points toward the courtyard. "We should head over. I think Rick has something to say."
He pauses. "Just... one more thing before that." He takes her hand gently, setting a ring in her hand. "Will you-"
She cuts him off with a kiss. "Yes."
They walk up to a picnic table where Hershel, Beth, Maggie, Carl, Tyreese, and Sasha sit. Carol sits off to the side holding Judith.
Rick is standing.
Rosanna glances around but there's no sign of Daryl, Merle, or Michonne.
Rick stares at the ground. "When I met with the Governor, he offered me a deal. He said-- he said he would leave us alone if I gave him Michonne."
Rosanna gasps and Glenn grabs her hand.
Rick continues. "And I was gonna do that... to keep us safe. I changed my mind. But now Merle took Michonne to fulfill the deal, and Daryl went to stop him, and I don't know if it's too late."
A tear forms in the corner of Rosanna's eye, but she blinks it away.
"I was wrong not to tell you. And I'm sorry. What I said last year, that first night after the farm... it can't be like that. It can't. What we do, what we're willing to do, who we are, it's not my call. It can't be. I couldn't sacrifice one of us for the greater good because we are the greater good. We're the reason we're still here, not me. This is life and death. How you live... how you die-- it isn't up to me. I'm not your Governor. We choose to go. We choose to stay. We stick together. We vote. We can stay and we can fight, or we can go."
___
Michonne is back. Apparently, Merle let her go. She came back to the prison. Even after the almost-deal with the Governor.
Now they are packing up the cars.
Rosanna walks up to Daryl where he sits next to his bike. He sighs. "You know, Merle never did nothing like that his whole life."
Daryl went after Merle and found him at the old meeting spot. He was a walker. The Governor had shot him. Merle tried taking him down. He failed but he did get a few soldiers in the process.
She holds out her hand to him. "He gave us a chance."
He takes it and stands up. She gently pulls him in for a hug.
"I'm sorry. For leavin'." He mumbles.
She pulls away. "Yeah, well don't do it again."
He smirks. "Won't."
She rolls her eyes at his short answer. "Promise?"
He nods.
