10 Days Trial

Day 1 - Nothing's Changed

Fourth walked into the class and found Gemini busy on his phone playing game.

"Good morning." Fourth said taking a seat beside him.

"Oh! Morning." Gemini said without looking up.

"Did you finish the assignment?" Fourth asked.

"Yeah, it's in the bag. Take out and start copying. Professor will be here any minute." Gemini said knowing well about his best friend and his academic interests.

"Thanks." Fourth smiled, took out Gemini's assignment and started copying.

"Good morning CC." Mark walked in the class with Ford following behind.

"CC?" Gemini asked confused while Fourth ignored them and continued copying.

"Campus Couple." Mark said and winked.

Fourth looked up from his notes at Mark and then turned to Gemini who was looking at him with equally blank expressions.

"I forgot." Fourth said.

"Me too." Gemini laughed and Fourth laughed along giving him a high five.

Mark stared at them both with a disbelief. Ford patted Mark's shoulder chuckling and walked away to their desk.

"What?" Fourth asked Mark when he kept staring for a while like that.

"You both... Forget it." Mark walked away.

During the break, Fourth bought a meal for himself and sat on an empty table. Gemini was already having his meal with his other group of friends whom he had to work with for group assignments.

When their eyes met, they both nodded and greeted each other and went back to eating on their own.

Someone snapped a plate in front of Fourth and he looked up to find an annoyed Mark glaring at him.

"What is wrong with you again?" Fourth asked.

Ford laughed and came from behind. "He is upset that you both are not being boyfriend-boyfriend." Ford said.

"Boy...? Oh!" Fourth laughed. "It's just that we are not even able to think about it that way dude. We have been like this since always."

"It's because you are not even trying. Did we not talk about TRIAL period?" Mark snapped.

"Ok, so... what shall I do in this so called TRIAL period?" Fourth asked.

"If it weren't for Gemini, your childhood friend, what would you do with someone you just start dating?" Ford asked.

"I don't know. I haven't been with anyone for more than a single date." Fourth shrugged.

"Then THINK of what will you do." Mark said massaging his temples highly annoyed. "Honestly, I wanted you guys to be happy. But you both are dorks."

Mark walked away. Ford smiled awkwardly at Fourth before waving him bye and following his boyfriend.

Fourth thought about what Mark said and started thinking as to what should be done in order to make sure that he is actually TRYING something in the trial period.

Gemini was practicing in computer lab when Ford took his usual seat beside him. "Hey!"

"What's up?" Gemini greeted him.

Ford smiled back. "Nothing. I have been trying to make my worried boyfriend relax since morning."

"Really?"

"Yeah. He is upset that his cupid couple is not responding to his trial proposal." He said.

Gemini paused and looked at Ford confused.

"Honestly, even I feel that you guys are not making the best use of your trial period?"

Gemini took a moment to think before replying.

"But, what should we do? We have been like this since always and we are comfortable this way. It just feels like... Like..." Gemini thought what to say exactly to convey what he is really feeling.

"Like nothing has changed?" Ford completed his statement. "Maybe that's because you guys are not willing to change?"

"It's not like that. I mean, I would try to make it work since we have a deal."

"So is this how you behave with the one you start dating?" Ford asked.

When Gemini did not reply Ford simply smiled at him and continued working on his assignment leaving Gemini to think about the difference between treating his best friend vs his boyfriend.
