We gather to sit in the living room about to watch TV. Mom wants to watch the soccer game just because Colombia played. She had it recorded since forever.
"Gloria, do we have to keep this Colombia-Brazil soccer game?" Jay complains.
"Yes, I haven't seen it yet." Mom sits down on the couch next to Jay. Manny and I sit on one of the chairs.
"It's been sitting in there for five months. I mean, I can tell you who wins," Then Mom has to make an obnoxious noise to not hear him spoil the winner for her. Thankfully, she stops. "And what about this two-hour 'antiques roadshow'?"
"I'll watch it today." Manny gets up and walk away.
"And what the hell is Hot Tub Time Machine?" He asks confusedly.
"Oh, I've been meaning to finish watching it." I say guiltily.
"Fine. I'm gonna play some golf." Jay gets up to leave as well.
I leave too so I won't have to hear their conversation. Something about Mom wanting us to go to a quinceañara. I remember my own quinceañara. The father-daughter dance I had with my own father is one of my favorite memories I cherish with him.
Too bad that I have very few special favorite memories of us.

Later, we're at the party. I change my outfit to my strapless purple dress with silver heels. I even straightened my hair earlier. There's upbeat Latin music playing, people are dancing and having a good time. Looks fun. But I'm not sure if I know anyone here, maybe some.
Jay is acting like he knows everyone's name here, but he really doesn't. When Mom walks away from him, he pulls Manny and I closer.
"Listen, I need a favor. I overestimated the number of people I know at this party. So you two go around, introduce yourselves, and I'll hear the names."
"You realize you're asking us to help prove our own mother wrong?" Manny disapproves.
"I'll pay two bucks per introduction." Jay makes a deal.
"Alright, well, that's Ramona," He immediately points out. "She's crazy for bingo."
"Ramona." Jay tries to remember.
After pointing out to Jay the people we know, he seems to get the hang of it, and pays us for our job. Manny and I go off to mingle. He's hanging out with some kids and I get a drink at the bar that's just coke.
Then I just hang around like a wallflower. Not really knowing what to do or who I should talk to. If this is a party with kids from school, I'll be more social and outgoing because I know the kids and have friends. This is a different party for me.
When I take another sip of my soda, there's a guy who looks a little bit older than me, but still in high school. He's probably a senior. Looks very handsome, kind of like Enrique Iglesias.
"Hello," He greets me.
"Hello." I greet him back.
"My name is Omar Ramirez."
"Vanessa Delgado."
"Mm, Vanessa, a very beautiful name for a very beautiful woman," Omar casually flirts with me. Then he asks in a sexy and husky voice. "Surely a beautiful woman like you is taken?"
"No, I'm not. I'm single. My boyfriend broke up with me months ago."
"Now, how could he do something like that to you? He must be an idiot."
