Ranboo had worked tirelessly in their office for hours. Doing god-knows-what, it had taken up all of their evening, leading well into the night.

Their vibrant heterochromatic eyes scanned the etch of a quill in their hand. They let out a long, drawn-out sigh.

Their chair leaned back as they exhaled, a small creak coming from the floorboards under them. They took a quick look around the room, scanning it for a possible distraction from their work.

They were interrupted from their daze by the sound of footsteps creeping down the hall to their office. A soft, somber voice came from the boy who the footsteps belonged to.

"..Ranboo?"

In his eyes, a twang of ache lingered. Clear recently-stained cheeks were glistening with tears.

Behind him, a hand-sewn quilt accompanied him-- held up by his unsettled shoulders. On it were sewn bees, flowers, and herbs of all kinds.

A perturbed expression found Ranboo's face. "Bee? What happened," Ranboo crooned, "Are you okay?"
They got up from their chair, slightly leaning over their desk in concern.

"I-" Tubbo choked out, stifled by a sob. "I had a nightmare," he croaked, "and i don't feel very good."

He stood looking at a corner in the room, stiff; frozen. Clutching the blanket around his shoulders as if to hold on to life itself.
He blinked new tears out of his eyes, then looked across the room to observe Ranboo.

Their defined eyebrows were wrung together in concern, gazing up at their husband from their desk. Their mouth was hung slightly ajar, attempting to formulate words of comfort.
Tubbo's shaken breaths could be heard from his trembling jaw, self-aware of his own supposed terror leaking from his lungs.

"Do you want a hug?"

Ranboo's soft inquiry echoed through his head, a simple voice inside his head could be heard screaming--

"Yeah."
His voice scratched; tears streamed down his eyes, arms extending as his spouse walked around their desk.
He didn't know why it meant so much to him. He didn't know why all of a sudden he yearned for a hug with all of his being.

Ranboo always knew that his nightmares were awful after the festival, they couldn't imagine what he went through during nights like these.

They bent down on both of their knees, making their arms more accessible to their husband as Tubbo pulled them in.
They felt Tubbo sob into their shoulder, feeling his entire body shake through the embrace.
Soft noises of loving recognition from Ranboo emerged as they stroked their husbands' hair.

"Do you wanna talk about it at all?"

"Not really."

"That's fine."

Tubbo pulled them tighter, savoring the affection.

He pulled away from the embrace, looking at Ranboo; who was now at eye-level with him. He seemed uneasy, not wanting to go back to bed-- with the chance that the nightmares may come back.

Ranboo acknowledged this discomfort, and proposed an idea;
"Do you want me to come to bed with you? Would that help at all?"

A melancholy, warm, appreciative smile beamed onto Tubbo's face as he obliged.
With a simple peck on his cheek, Ranboo whisked him off to their shared bedroom together.

Upon arrival, a long sigh was drawn out of Tubbo.
"What's wrong Tubs," Ranboo inquired, "don't wanna go back to bed?"

"Yeah," Tubbo said with a grunt, softly planting his head into Ranboo's shoulder.
He sluggishly plopped back down onto his bed, staring at the floor for a moment.

Tubbo raised his head to look at Ranboo- his eyes graciously lit by the moonlight streaming from the window.
"Will you please come to bed with me?"

Ranboo winced, tempted but conflicted. "You know I have work to do, I don't think I-"
"Please."
Tubbo softly gripped their arm, his lips curled into a straight line.

Their face softened, melted by his want for them. Ranboo obliged, and climbed onto the bed with him.
Ranboo laid him down with them, pulling Tubbo's blanket closer to them both.

"I love you." Ranboo commented at the state of his discomfort.

"I know." Tubbo stammered, his head rested on their chest with his body still upright, his legs crossed together.

Ranboo stroked his hair, safe and sound in their arms.

"I love you too." Tubbo grumbled, groggily as he drifted to sleep.
