Lucas immediately got in the car. He slammed his bags down in the passenger seat next to him and didn't even bother turning on the stereo. Just crying. While driving. He needed a map because GPS wasn't a thing back then but he got the map at a local grocery store. He drew at where he needed to head to and went like a bullet to Sunny Side, CA. Except it's a 23 hour drive.
'Come on,' Lucas thought to himself, 'we can stay awake come on Lucas!' But he couldn't. Around 10 hours in it was 8:00 pm. He had cried like a baby for 10 straight hours while driving a car. He needed somewhere to stop. He went through a town called Pleasentville on the way. He found a bar. No motel or hotel, a bar. Now this bar was no ordinary bar. It had three floors. One which the bar was and the other were two floors of bedrooms. Lucas entered to find a bar with a television the size pretty big for an 80s tv. There was a bartender and a couple of people there. Drinking their worry's away. Lucas sat down.
"Hey!" The man behind the bar said, "Your Lucas Sinclair! LA Lakers Shooting Guard oh my god!"
"Yeah..." Lucas said looking down.
"You ok basketball star?" The bartender ask.
"Not really." Lucas said trying to hold back tears.
"Ok well I want to hear about what you are having troubles with," The bartender says "When someone walks in my bar I wanna know the reason. I mean, you don't walk in a bar in the middle of the evening for no reason. Folks need someone to talk to and I can see you look sad and tired boy."
"Ok fine." Lucas says finally picking his head up. He told him everything. He cried and screamed. Kinda made a scene. But the bartender listened. "I'm sorry," Lucas says wiping his eyes, "Yeah I guess people really need someone to talk to. What's your name again?" Lucas ask.
"Sam, Sam Rocklend. That's why the bar has the big rocklend sign on the front." Sam says chuckling, "Listen kid, you need somewhere to stay and I am not letting you sleep in your car. Stay on the second floor. Completely open space tonight. I insist."
"T-thank you!" Lucas says and shakes his hand.
"Go up stairs and go straight to bed boy. Don't worry bout tommorow yet, you hear?" Sam says.
"Yes, sir." Lucas says. He starts walking upstairs but he turns around, "Thank you, Sam."
"Anytime basketball star." Sam says. Then goes and makes a drink for the next customers. Lucas goes upstairs. Plops down his bag and runs straight to the twin bed waiting for him. He lays down. Takes a breath. And immediately falls asleep. He has a plan, a plan to win the girl he loves heart over again... it was a start to something. A chance. And that's all he needed.
