I felt Nohr enter the palace the moment a force of emotions hit me, making me sit up in my bed with how intense and strong those emotions were, like I was feeling them myself.

This feeling... it made my whole body become uncomfortable, and since mating with Nohr, it was the first time I had felt the mate bond work this way as Nohr was always calm and controlled.

I didn't put on any shoes as I left my bedroom and ran down the halls of the palace, ignoring the wary looks of guards posted in the halls, I ran towards where I knew in my mind where Nohr would be.

I felt sick with worry, I hated it, something was wrong and I didn't know what, the only thing I knew was that he was alive, and breathing and that whatever he was feeling was because of where he just came from.

I find Nohr standing beside my grandfather and my father and my uncle, Lucas as they spoke quietly, too quiet for me to pick up on as I walked towards them, trying to calm my breathing to make it seem like I didn't just run all the way here.

"Hey." I came up to them as their heads turned to face me.

Nohr smiled when he saw me and everyone else frowned, which made me freeze and stare at them as Nohr stepped away from them and made his way towards me.

"Hayden... where are your shoes?" Nohr asked, breaking the thick air that was curranty in the halls.

Oh... is that what he's worried about? "Shoes? Really?"

"Forget about the shoes, how did the meeting go?" I ask, making Nohr's smile fall.

"I'm going to... see your mom." My dad said, shifting his eyes away from us awkwardly. "Find me when you're done Nohr."

Nohr nodded his head and looked at me, and even without words I could tell something was wrong, the only times my father would escape a room was when mom was mad or he felt uncomfortable.

"Tell me what the fuck is happening." I whispered out, my anger now coming out as nobody is saying anything.

While me and Nohr have a staring match, I felt a hand on my shoulder, and when I saw it was Kane, I shoved his hand off me.

"Do you know what's going on?" I ask him and he sighed heavily out while nodding his head.

"It's not my place to say, I'll give you two room to talk." He simply said before turning around and walking away.

Kane didn't get a few feet before I felt my anger lash out.

"What is going on Nohr!" I snap out. "You better tell me soon before I kick your a-"

"The meeting went just as I thought it would." He said, his hand reaching out to touch mine.

His eyes were serious and cold, he looked like a wild animal as he clenched his hand in mine.

"The King gave me an impossible option, and I refused it and because of that there was only one thing I could do to spare The Vale and your life."

What? "What are you talking about?"

"What option?" I asked, confused.

Nohr went silent, if only for a moment before he released his hand in mine. "Nok Tiran."

Nok wha- "What?" I didn't know what that was, but by the look on his face, it wasn't anything good.

I saw his eyes falter, if only for a moment before he ran his gloved hand through his hair, his eyes now on mine.

"I will fight him in five days." He said quietly, watching my face for a reaction and when there isn't one because I was still confused, he swallowed hard.
