How many times can you truly fall into love? Aurora was sure she fell deeper in that pit each day. Watching her mate play with Nyx, laugh with his brothers, training every day; everything made her feel the urge to fall to her knees and beg for his love. When his hot mouth was on her skin, she felt like she was burning in an eternal flame. Even as he ate his dinner, wine on his tongue, Aurora couldn't help but stare.
She had heard of creatures called angels; divine in their own right, beauty so unfathomable that they'd burn your eyes if you looked at them too long. Mortals began to worship them in years past, turning away from the gods that had failed them so often. Aurora believed Azriel was an angel in his own right. He had the beauty of a creature so unforgivingly stunning, it made every ounce of air leave her lungs when his eyes met hers.
Glazing honey, golden wisps deepened with greens and browns, his eyes sucked her in like he was devouring her being. Those lips, whispering sinful words that had her praying for debauchery and pain at his hand.
That is how tonight went: Azriel enjoying conversation with the family during a joint dinner done once a week. After everyone had moved from the estate, Feyre demanded everyone returned one day a week. Aurora had chosen to sit between Mor and Cassian, directly across from her mate.
He was in a fitted black outfit, the fabric like liquid over his carved muscles. Even in his calm demeanor, shadows licked and kissed his throat and cheeks like they, too, needed a taste of their master in every moment. His hair had grown and fell back into waves, a few falling over his eyes. Aurora swallowed thickly, unable to tear her gaze away. She had been silent all day, watching his every movement like a predator after its prey.
"Do you want more wine, Aurora?" Cassian asked as he nudged her shoulder. With a shuddering breath, she looked over at the general and nodded. He shot her a quick grin before filling her glass. Aurora willed her hands not to shake as she took her own glass and drank from it slowly. As her eyes returned to the Shadowsinger's, his were already on her. After a decade of being bonded to him, nothing could stop it from feeling new. Some days, she felt like that fragile creature that met the winged warrior for the first time.
Azriel let a grin slide onto his face, his eyes falling to her hand, then the swell of her breasts beneath her dress, and then her lips. She let her tongue roll across her bottom lip, chest rising in a slow, uneven breath. Her eyes fluttered when she felt his shadows looming along her spine, shoulders, throat. Curse him for allowing them to do his bidding.
"I think we need to head home," Azriel spoke in a gruff voice, all attention turning to him. Aurora swallowed thickly, averting her eyes to the half empty wine glass in her hand.
"I know why you want to leave, and you have all week to fuck. Enjoy drinks and conversation, you two," Feyre snapped, earning a grunt of agreement from Rhysand. Aurora felt a hand rest on her knee, squeezing lightly.
"He's a monster, isn't he?" Mor whispered. A flush rose onto Aurora's cheeks, looking up through her lashes at Azriel. Cruel, wicked thing. He leaned back in his chair, teeth gleaming as he smiled at her before sipping from his glass. She craved the taste of that wine on his tongue.
"He truly is," Aurora whispered back. Mor squeezed her leg before returning back to conversation with Amren, who had finally joined after weeks of no appearance. Her usually alabaster skin held a warm glow from her time in the Summer Court.
"Are we all finished with supper? Let's go gather in the sitting room for drinks, I'll start a fire," Rhysand offered as he pushed his chair back and grabbed his glass of whiskey. Feyre nodded happily and followed him, everyone else trailing behind. Aurora stood as Azriel did, taking her wine glass and following behind Mor. She felt his cool skin brush against the open back of her dress, her breath hitching.
