The world was different now. New wars, battalions, warriors, and enemies never stopped to resurface. People wanting to be apart of something, something that makes their life worth living for. For centuries there has been stories of superheroes, anti-heroes, or villains - there comes a time to wonder what side individuals stand on. The side where you fight for the good, or the side where you make bad things happen, or are you a bystander - someone in the shadows who watches the action but never gets involved. The bystander was Tatum Reed.
She has lived her whole life in a foster home, with kids she was suppose to call her friends and siblings but never did, except one. Amy. Amy is 8 years older than Tatum. They have known each other all their life. Tatum since she was an infant, and Amy since she was 8 years old. The foster home was never the ideal place to live, kids weren't treated as kids and they were shoved in small rooms for an extended amount of time - sometimes without food or water. They learned curse words by the age of 5 as all the caretakers would repeatedly say them to other co-workers and children. Children in the foster home never knew what the outside world was, as they only got 1 hour of outside time per week. Bruises, cuts, and scrapes were always found on the kids almost everyday, and it wasn't from their outside play.
The foster home was the only place Tatum could go, as she was a baby so she couldn't have a say. Her mother died after giving birth to her, it was a home birth and Tatum's mother could not make it to the hospital in time due to too much blood loss but they could save the baby. Tatum. Her father on the other hand left when she was 9 months old, he wanted to "make a difference" .
Tatum resented him her whole life, as he never came back for her and abandoned her when she was a child. But the only thing she ever liked and would like about her father is the sacrifice he wanted to make, he wanted to fight in a war that no mortal man should have to fight in but he wanted to do it - to protect the world from unnatural enemies. Tatum knew that at a young age she would want to do the same.

"Come on Tatum, we need to get home before dark." A 19 year old Amy pulls a 11 year old Tatum down the dark town street of Harper Woods, Michigan.
"Amy, I want to look in the bookstore." Tatum asks her adoptive big sister.
"No sweetie. It will be dark in 20 minutes, and the bus will be here soon." Amy says as she pulls the small redhead Tatum down the street to the bus stop.
"But please!" Tatum begs again. "No!" Amy retorts back, obviously annoyed with her younger sister.
The old, creaky city bus slowly pulls up to the bus stop, and Amy struggling to look in her pockets for quarters and dimes.
"Shit." Amy mutters under her breath.
"Hi sir." Amy says as she puts on her best award winning smile. "My sister and I don't have enough change for the bus, is there any way you can still let us on?" Amy asks in the nicest way as she possibly could. Tatum noticed her older sister's golden blonde hair blowing with the spring wind, along with her icy blue eyes that could cut a person if they stared too long.
"No." The old man said and closed the bus doors. "Asshole!" Amy shouts as the bus drives away.
Tatum noticed something on the back of the bus as it drove off, an advertisement. It was colored with all the blue, red, gold, and black tones you could think of. It had about 3 people on it, on the left was an older Caucasian male in his 40s, an Asian lady in the middle with a low bun, and another male that was dark skinned and had a flashing smile. Tatum concentrated at the bus advertisement as it slowly turned the corner down the street, and no longer could see it. But she remembered the words on the advertisement that was gone in a flash - Conquer the world of the unknown. Little did young Tatum know that those words would stick with her until she was her sister's age.
