Kyuna had spent everyday of the past three weeks helping train jake, surprisingly he was a very fast learner. Well he struggled with the language, he often called it a "pain" much to the girls annoyance. Despite this he still managed to learn basic phrases and words, he was able to communicate with alot of omatikaya people now.
Although the omatikaya people were extremely weary of jake, due to past experiences with dreamwalkers, many of them were now extremely accepting of him. Jake had even become friends with a few of the male hunters. Kyuna was extremely proud of him and honered that he named her his "best friend".
Today was one day were the two were not training together, instead kyuna was hunting.
One of the male hunters within the clan , imrìk, had invited her. The girl knew he had feelings for her, after the conversation she had with neytiri she decided it wouldnt hurt to atleast try and care about things like boys, even if she didnt like imrìk.
Swiftly kyuna jumped from a branch to the forest floor, making no noise as she landed. Soon she was followed by her fellow hunter who looked around and tried to spot whatever the girl had sensed.
"there are a herd of viperwolves in over there, stay quiet" the girl muttered looking towards the boy.
"okay" he nodded in response.
Kyuna begin crawling slowly in the opposite direction of the viper wolves, being followed by imrìk.
Suddenly the girls ears fell flat on her head, they were being followed. The girl raised her right arm signalling to the boy to stop. The pair froze for a second before kyuna looked at him mouthing, "we are in danger", she could tell a panicked look spreading across the boys face. Kyuna silently pointed towards a small cave structure in which the two could hide. Soon they crawled over to the cave and huddled close together. The girl pulled her bow infront of her, preparing incase something was to attack.
Low growling could be heard from around them, but not the growls of viperwolves. A viperwolf growl was much more high pitched, barley even a growl actually more like a screeching giggle. Kyunas heart raced at the unknown confused of what the creature was.
After a few minutes the area went silent, seemingly whatever was hunting them got bored and ran away. Imrik grabbed kyunas arm harshly and started dragging her out into the open without warning.
As the two began running imrik let go, the two soon heard a hiss from behind them causing to stop dead in their tracks and turn around.
Palulukan.
The creature took a step forward looking straight at kyuna.
Kyuna attempted to show no fear, standing in her place, her feet firmly placed on the ground. It seemed the animal wasnt even paying attention to the male.
kyuna bravely raised her bow towards the animal.
"go" she spoke firmly to the warrior at the side of her.
"but-" he protested
"i said go." she spoke aiming her arrow directly at the hissing animals head.
"i will be fine just run" she continued. Following her instructions imrik ran extremely quickly. The animal didnt even flinch when the girls arrow was raised, not even everting its eyes once the male ran away.
Kyuna hissed pulling her arm further back threatening the animal.
Quickly the animal spring towards her, toppling her over and scratching her thigh in the process, she released her arrow managing to cut the animals side however not puncturing the animal properly.
She hissed once again now kneeling infront of the animal grabbing another bow, however instead of fighting back the animal seemed to take a step back and almost knelt infront of the girl, before kyuna even had time to take in what the animal was doing it ran away into the forest.
Once the girl was alone she lowered her bow, reaching her thigh to cover her wound. It was a slightly deep cut, it wouldnt scar but she needed to get to home tree so her mother could treat it.
After a jog through pandoras forest it took the girl about half an hour to get back to home tree. The girl was greeted by a small croud of people, her sister immediately running and hugging her. As kyuna scanned the people within the crowd she saw a relived look on everyones faces.
"my daughter!!" her father spoke happily bringing her in for a hug once neytiri had finished.
"she is wounded father" neytiri spoke pointing to your thigh.
The next thing you knew you were in the tsahìks part of home tree with elm bark on your leg, waiting for it to heal.
"now, rest for tonight" her mother spoke kissing her forehead, "oh the dream walker wants to see you" her mother continued before leaving where you were sat. Once she had gone you looked down at your wound. Since you hadnt had time to notice it when it had happened you didn't realise how big the cut was.
"thank god you're okay" a voice said
Looking up kyuna realised it was jake and let out a small chuckle.
"what happened?" he said coming to her side
"well me and imrìk were hunting, we headed west to avoid viperwolves but we accidentally ran into palulukan-" she was interrupted
"whats that?" he asked
"it is a large black creature" she spoke "but anyways it attacked me and cut my leg"
"did imrik not protect you? god you shouldnt have gone hunting with that guy" jake sighed in frustration
"i told him to go jake" she rolled her eyes " i can defend myself"
"right sorry" he looked at the floor in embarrassment.
"you were worried?" the girl smiled softly
"of course i was" he laughed, "you're my best friend."
