"Alright, Faye, I should get home. If I leave any later, Mother and Father will start worrying." I say as I rise from her bed. She closes the book we were looking at and places it beside her. "Okay. I'll walk you out." she replies with a smile. She stands and we both walk to the front door. I hug her then get on my horse. "It was lovely to see you, Faye." I say with a smile. She nods. "As it was to see you. Don't be a stranger." she replies. With that, I ride away and start my jounrey home.
A couple days pass.
My Father barges into my room, waking me. "Y/n, Faye's village was raided by Queen Ravenna's army." he says, panting as he leans on the end of my bed. My body snaps upright quicker than my brain can think. "What?" I ask, thinking I heard him wrong. "Faye's village has been raided." he repeats. I hurry out of bed and grab my cape. I rush out to my horse. Father hurries after me. Mother follows along. "Y/n, where are you going?" Father asks. "To see if she's okay." I reply. Mother shakes her head. "No, Y/n it's danger-" she starts. I climb on my horse. "I don't care how dangerous it is. I'm a Witch, Mother. I can protect myself." I tell her. Mother and Father don't say anything.
I hurry my way to Faye's village. I arrive at her cottage and barge in. "Hello, Faye? Are you here?" I ask as I search the building. There's no sign of her. I punch a wooden door and instantly regret the decision as pain throbs through my hand. "Fuck!" I shout as I massage the pain away. I search the rest of the village. All young women had been taken over night. Every single one.
The realization of what happens hits and my knees become weak. I grab onto a waist high fence for stability. I take a long, deep breath and ride home. "Y/n, you're okay." Father says as I enter the house. I keep my gaze fixed towards the floor. Mother runs over and hugs me. "Is Faye okay?" she asks. I make eye contact with her. "She's been taken." I reply. The words coming from my mouth cause me to break down. My knees give out and I fall to the ground, loud sobs escaping my mouth. Both of my parents crouch down beside me to comfort me.
That night, I don't even attempt to sleep. My body's wide awake, my mind's wide awake; sleeping is a no-go. Once I know for sure that my parents are asleep, I sneak out of the house and grab my horse. I look at my house for a while, deciding if I should go through with my plan. I mount my horse and ride off into the forest, not giving a thought about my parents reactions when they wake up to find their daughter missing.
I ride for hours until I come to the gates of a Kingdom I've heard more than enough about. Tabor; the home of Queen Ravenna. By now, the sun is beginning to rise. The sky is a dark blue, with faint streaks of purple, pink, and orange. I enter through the gates. The guards approach me but I click my fingers and they drop to the ground, not dead, but unconscious. I come up to the castle and more guards approach, all holding either swords or cross-bows. "Stop. Who are you?" one guard asks.
I look in his direction. My face is mostly shaded by the hood of my cape. "I need to talk to her Majesty, Queen Ravenna." I say, not answering his question. "You can speak to her Majesty once you answer my question." he bargains. "Sorry, Sir, but I don't believe you." I tell him. He groans. "Answer the question." he says. He turns back to another guard. "Let her Majesty know that someone is here to talk to her." he says. He turns back to me. "Like I asked before, who are you?"
I dismount my horse and hold the reins firmly in my hand. "Y/n Briar, Sir." I tell him. "Where are you from, Y/n Briar?" he questions. "Caelkirk." I say, adding confidence to my tone. "Y/n Briar of Caelkirk, welcome to Tabor." he says. I nod. He leads me inside to where I assume Queen Ravenna will be. We enter a large room. The air is freezing. Goosebumps coat my skin as a shiver runs down my back. "Your Majesty, Y/n Briar of Caelkirk." the guard says with a bow.
I walk forward and stop a good twenty feet in front of her. She stands. "Y/n Briar." she says quietly. I cursty, although I don't want to. "Yes, your Majesty." I say. "You wanted to talk to me. About what?" she asks, slowly approaching me. "You have something, or someone, I want." I say, standing straight. She stops a few feet in front of me. "And what is that exactly?" she questions. "A young woman by the name of Faye Stillthorpe. Your guards took her and I want her back." I say. The words sound idiotic coming from my mouth, but it's too late now.
She starts to circle me slowly. "You're very brave coming here, Y/n Briar." she says. I don't reply. "Yet so very stupid." She stops in front of me once again, and looks me up and down. "How old are you, Y/n?" she asks. "Give me Faye." I say, avoiding her question. "You're very persistant." she tells me. "Give. Me. Faye." I say again. She sighs. "And why should I do that? Do you have a trade? Something for the poor girl?" she questions. "Yes, in fact I do."
The words hit me after I say them, and in that very moment I feel as though I might pass out. She raises an eyebrow. "And what might that trade be, Miss Briar?" she questions, curiosity in her tone. "I weld the gift of Magic, your Majesty. Unlike the women you've been taking, I can spell myself to live forever. I'll trade myself for the freedom of the women you have trapped here." I bargain. She raises both eyebrows. "You're a Sorceress?" she questions. I nod. "Prove to me that you can use magic, and I'll consider your offer." she says.
I hold out one hand and click the fingers of my other hand. A small, yet jagged dagger appears in my open hand. I close my eyes and mutter something under my breath. The Queen watches me like a hawk. I slice open the palm of my free hand. The wound starts healing straight away. She looks at my hand, fascinated by the sight. The pool of blood in my hand evaporates into the air. I hold the dagger out in front of me and it fades away.
Queen Ravenna claps slowly. "You're not a liar, Miss Briar. I'm impressed." she says. "I didn't come here to impress you, your Majesty. I came here to get my friend back. Let the women go and I'll stay here. You can use me as your source of youth. I won't age, I won't die. You won't need to use anyone else." I tell her. She looks down at my hand again, as if to see the wound that isn't there. "How do I know you can't die?" she asks. "Try it." I say. I hold out a hand and click my fingers. A sword appears in my hand. I grab the blade and hold it out to her.
She grabs the handle and pulls it from my grasp, the blade slicing my skin open. I let the blood drip to the floor and the wound heals. I blood quickly turns to a steam and drifts off into the air. "Kill me with it." I tell her. She holds the weapon to my chest and stabs me right through. I gasp as a tidal wave of pain flows through me. She pulls the weapon from my chest and I fall to the ground. Blood pools around me.
The wound starts to close and my eyes flutter open. I rise from the ground, slightly unbalanced. The blood pool evaporates. I click my fingers and the sword disappears. "I want to try with one of my own weapons." she tells me. "Go right ahead." I say. She waves a guard over. He hands her his sword. "What if I were to remove your head?" she asks. "Try it. See what happens." I say.
She swings the sword. The body falls limp on the ground. My head hits the floor and rolls a little. She studied the sight. My somewhat dismembered body starts to re-assemble. The slice heals completely. My eyes open suddenly and I gasp for air. I rise from the ground and rub my neck. "I'm convinced. I hope I can trust you, Miss Briar." she says. I nod. "Of course, your Majesty. I'll do anything to make sure Faye is safe. That includes giving myself up to take her place so she can live." I tell her.
"You're a loyal friend, Y/n." she tells me. I nod. "Follow me. I'll take you to Faye." she says. She leads me to a dungeon under the castle. She waves a hand and the cell doors open. A heap of women slowly walk their way out. One stops at the doorway of their cell. "Y/n!" Faye exclaims. She runs into my arms. I hold her tightly. "They didn't hurt you, did they?" I ask. She shakes her head. "You need to get home. On your way, stop by my family. I need you to do something for me." I tell her. She tilts her head in confusion. "Make them forget. Make them forget everything. Make them forget me, make them forget the takings of women. Make them forget all of it." I tell her.
"Make them forget you, why?" she asks. I sigh. "I'm staying here, Faye. Queen Ravenna can use me as her source of youth as I can't die." I tell her. She shakes her head. "No, Y/n. You're not-" she starts. I place a gentle hand on her face. "I am, Faye. Now go. Make my parents forget. I will feel it once you have. I'll know if you've done it or not. Make everyone forget me. It'll be best if you make yourself forget too." I say. She shakes her head again. "I'm not making myself forget you, Y/n. Sure, I'll make everyone else forget, but there's no way I'm making myself forget." she tells me. I nod. "Okay. Now go." I say. She hesitates but hurries along with the other women.
I turn and watch them all leave. Queen Ravenna walks over and stands beside me. "You've permenantly given your life away, you understand that, don't you?" she asks. I sigh with a nod. "I do, yes."
Later that day, as I'm sitting near an open window, I get hit by a sudden wave of dizziness. Queen Ravenna looks towards me. I can feel her gaze on me. "She's done it. I'm officially forgotten."
