The next morning I promise myself that I won't be difficult while King Alfred and Queen Cathryn are here. As I'm washing up, a Maid walks into my room with a stunning forest green dress. "Good morning, Lady Y/n. Her Majesty told me to bring this to you." she tells me with a curtsy.

If we're being serious, I don't deserve a curtsy. I'm not Royalty, nor will I ever be or ever want to be. "Thank you, Margeret." I say with a smile. I finish washing up then I do my hair into a tidy low bun. As I'm walking over to the dress, the sleeves catch my eye. Small, what look like spirals from a distance, travel up towards the elbow. I smile to myself and put it on.

I make my way to the dining hall. I silently take a seat. Queen Ravenna looks at me. I smile. Her eyes narrow. I can feel her skepicism. "Good morning, your Majesty." I say as the Cooks bring out breakfast. "Good morning, Lady Y/n." she replies, her eyes still narrowed.

After breakfast, King Alfred and Queen Cathryn arrive. Queen Ravenna talks to them the whole time, while I sit beside her saying nothing. "So, Lady Y/n, I hear you're new to the Kingdom." Queen Cathryn says. I smile with a nod. "Yes, your Majesty. That is correct." I reply. "Did you know Queen Ravenna prior to coming here?" King Alfred questions. "Briefly, as some would say." I answer. He nods. "Is there something going on between you guys?" Queen Cathryn asks, a bit of a smirk on her face. Queen Ravenna's face goes red as a wave of what feels like embarrassment crashes over me. "No." we both reply at once.

Once the King and Queen leave, Queen Ravenna and I walk back into the castle. "Thank you for today, Lady Y/n." she says. "Mmm sure." I reply. She looks at me, a hint of confusion in her expression. "I'm going to get out of this dress." I say as I walk away. She stops walking and watches me leave.

As stunning as the dress is, it's not at all comfortable. I change into a much more comfortable dress of a similar colour. I grab the book I've been reading and head out into the gardens. I lean against a tree and lose myself in the world of words. I read until I can hardly make the words out anymore. I glance at the darkening sky and close the book. I make my way back inside for dinner.

"How did you find King Alfred and Queen Cathryn?" Queen Ravenna asks. "They're alright, I guess." I reply with a shrug. "They're alright?" she asks. I nod. "I thought they were lovely." she tells. "That's great." I reply, not an ounce of enthusiasm in my tone. "Are you okay, Y/n?" she asks, obviously frustrated. I look up at her. "I'm fine." I tell her. "You're acting like you'd rather be anywhere but here." she says. I laugh. "That's probably because I would rather be anywhere but here." I reply. She scoffs and continues eating.

Later that evening, she tells me not to run off to my room just yet. "Do you need something?" I ask. She shakes her head. "Not exactly." she replies. I tilt my head. "Well, why must I stay here?" I question. "I want you to." she answers. "And why's that?" I ask. "I like being around you." she tells me. I snort. "Why? I'm a bitch." I say. She nods. "Yes, you are, but I like it." she says. My stomach drops. "No you don't. You look fed up whenever I say something you don't like." I argue. She nods slowly. "Okay, let me rephrase that. Yes, you're a bitch. You annoy the shit out of me, but you excite me. I like it when you excite me." she says.

Heat rises up the back of my neck. "I-" I try. I can't think of anything to say. "Have you noticed that you excite me, Y/n?" she asks. Something's changed, majorly. She's calling me by my first name. No 'Miss', no 'Lady'; just 'Y/n'. "No, your Majesty." I reply. "Huh, I feel as though my excitement when I'm around you is quite obvious to the naked eye." she says. I shake my head a little. "No, I haven't noticed. All I've taken note of is how you look like you want to kill me whenever I piss you off." I tell her. She smiles and looks towards the ground. "I most definitely don't want to kill you, Lady Y/n." she says. Back to 'Lady'.
