MK silently thanks months of throwing himself across Megapolis using his staff for not throwing up when Nezha finally sets him down.

They’re at the shores of Flower Fruit Mountain, just down the path MK always took to go see his mentor. He looks up at the peak of the mystical mountain high above his head, observing the seabirds flying high in the sky; his eyes flutter shut and he breathes in the scent of the sea breeze and earthy jungle he’s grown so familiar with.

It feels like it's been an eternity since he’s last been to the island.

Maybe in part, it was. They’ve been on the run from the Lady Bone Demon for over a month; the last time MK was here was the first time he’d been to the Monkey King’s domain since before the demoness’ take over, and that had been for the…the funeral.

Happy thoughts, MK immediately parrots to himself as he starts walking…only to stop when he doesn’t hear footsteps behind him. He turns slowly, finding Nezha standing exactly where they’ve landed, a small frown upon his face as he too looks at Flower Fruit Mountain.

“Are you coming?”

Nezha visibly hesitates. Uneasiness grows in the pit of MK’s stomach.

I knew it.

Something was off -why didn’t he pressure Nezha further before coming here? MK regards the god clearly attempting not to squirm, and asks;

“Monkey King doesn’t know I’m here, does he?” He guesses.

Nezha’s shoulders slump near imperceptibly. The god looks away, watching the waves wash over the sandy beaches of the Monkey King’s domain in silence. MK indulges him, breathing in the smell of sea salt and fruits that permeates the mythical mountain. After a few moments, Nezha takes a breath, then his gaze turn to meet MK’s.

“No.” He admits, somber. “But…it will do him good to see you.” The deity adds, with more strength to his voice.

MK glances at the mountain looming in front of them.

“Does…does Monkey King even want to see me?”

“Without a doubt.” Nezha’s quick response startles him; MK turns his eyes back to the god, surprised. It must show on his face, for the immortal continues more firmly. “I know my brother well, it is clear to me that Wukong cares about you. This..”

“... is… ?” MK finishes for him, gently urging. Nezha makes a face in response; the tiniest bit of unease flickers within those dark eyes.

“...I think it is best you see for yourself.”

MK can see the real reason a mile away.

“...you don’t want to face him, do you.”

“Not for the next few days,” Nezha admits. “Once his temper cools, I will return.” At MK’s clearly alarmed expression, the god shakes his head. “Don’t mistake my hesitation for fear, MK; I simply think it's better if I remove myself from the situation and force him to do something else than being angry.” The god argues. MK can see where he’s coming from.

“Like talking?”

“I’ll admit, that’s the plan?”

MK snorts. If Nezha’s going to do something that upsets the Monkey King but his mentor clearly needs, then Nezha not being within range will force the monkey to confront…whatever this is, that MK needs to deal with.

“...what did he do?”

Something softens in Nezha’s gaze.

“Something simple words cannot explain.” The god says cryptically. “I’d suggest you see for yourself.”
