Metkayina Clan

Neteyam's POV:

It had been 10 years since Aonung and I had bonded.

I still remember that day like it was yesterday.

We were only teenagers, but that was probably the best choice we ever made

No, it was the best choice we ever made...

I'm now 28 and Aonung is 27.

Aonung had been tossing and turning all night.

I could practically feel how scared he was.

Today was the day he became the chief.

Leader of the Metkayina clan.

I slowly opened my eyes to see Aonung on his side, facing me.

I looked out our window, seeing it was still dark.

"Goodmorning?" I asked in the tones of one who didn't quite know whether or not it actually was morning.

Aonung sighed, scooting closer and bringing me into a hug.

"Morning" He let out, pulling me close.

I was surprised at first. I saw still half asleep, so I couldn't tell what was going on.

I yawned into his chest, hugging back.

"Couldn't sleep?" I asked, closing my eyes again.

"Hardly" he replied, resting his head on top of mine.

"Aww, the big strong warrior scared for his ceremony?" I asked, making baby noises.

He covered my mouth, looking down at me.

"Shut up. I'm not scared" 

"But you are nervous" I replied, taking his hand off my lips.

He sighed again, closing his eyes and bringing me up to eye level.

We lay in comfortable silence for a moment or two before I spoke up.

"You'll be fine" I reassured, lightly cupping his cheek with my hand.

He opened his eyes, looking up at me.

Oh Ewya, 10 years later, and I still can't get over those eyes

He smiled, slowly nodding

"Thanks Neteyam" He said, pulling me closer

He quickly peeked me on the lips before pulling back and resting his head down

"That's it?" I asked, mildly disappointed 

"What?" He asked, looking at me confused.

"That's all I get for helping you?" I asked again, demanding more than just a quick kiss

His eyes widened as his ears shot up

"Oh you want more?" He asked, smirking at me

He quickly flipped the both of us so I was directly underneath him

He leaned down, kissing me on the cheek and neck

I giggled as his soft lips traveled up and down my body

"Aonung, that tickles!" I said, giggling

"I thought you wanted a reward?" He said, coming back up to my face

We looked at each others for a while, not losing the others gaze even for a second.

Aonung slowly came closer, closing his eyes and kissing me.

This time, it felt like an actual kiss.

Once he pulled back, he got up, ruffling his hair.

"I gotta get ready" He said, running off.

"Hey! You can't pull something like that and just leave!" I shouted, sprinting after him.

Neteyam's POV:

It was now lunch time, and the ceremony had begun.

The whole clan gathered as we watched them in silence

The Metkayina clan had a different process than ours.

Back in the forest, in the Omaticaya clan, the leader must die for the new leader to be born.

That was the tradition. That was always the way it went

But with the Metkayina, they had a completely different version of it.

The leader would say a few words about the new Chief and they would make an agreement.

After that, the new leader would swear to help and protect the clan.

And that was it. 

It was a very simple process.

Oh, and Aonung would have to get a tattoo to represent his role as the Olo'eyktan

It was a beautiful tradition in all honesty.

I watched as Aonung's father, and my father-in-law stood down as leader and handed the title to Aonung.

He seemed so happy, as if he was going to cry tears of pure joy.

Once it was official, the crowd cheered, surrounding their new leader.

I managed to push my way through the swarm of Na'vi and reach Aonung.

"Aonung!" I shouted, pushing Na'vi out of the way.

He looked over to me and smiled.

Once I reached him, he pulled me into a tight hug.

"I'm so proud of you" I said, hugging back

"Thank you Neteyam" He replied, bringing my chin up and softly kissing me.

It felt incredible. 

Aonung wasn't the Chief's son anymore.

He was the Chief.

He was the leader of the Metkayina clan.
