Chapter 23

'It's going to be perfect, Tony! Stop worrying so much.' Tegan said with a smile.

'I just want it to go perfectly, I love her so much.' Tony said rubbing his eyes.

It had been two weeks since he and Tegan began planning the engagement and Tony had been growing more and more nervous everyday. Steve on the other hand had been getting more and more suspicious every time Tegan left to go talk to Tony. He decided that what would be best was if he spoke to Bri about how she felt about their sudden friendship. Once Bri was done work and packing up for the day the elevator door opened.

'Hey Steve.' She said smiling.

She noticed that he looked stressed so she stopped her packing and turned to him.

'Is everything alright?'

'I need to have a word with you.' He said looking uncomfortably towards Tony's office door.

'Alright.' Bri said leading him to the seating area.

'Want a drink?' She asked pouring herself some wine.

'No, I'm alright.' He said rubbing his hands together nervously.

Once Bri sat down he unloaded.

'I just feel horrible that I'd even suspect somethings going on between them but I don't know what else to think.' He said once he was finished.

Bri hadn't taken a sip of her wine but just held it to her mouth as Steve told his story.

'Steve, I've learned to trust Tony and I know that Tegan wouldn't do that type of thing to either of us.'

'Then what are they doing in there?' Steve snapped.

'I-I don't know.' Bri said looking down.

Steve sighed and rubbed his temples. Finally, he let his curiosity get the best of him and trudged to the door. He turned the handle and swung it open.

'Rogers, close the door!' Tony yelled pulling him into the room.

Bri hadn't bothered to follow him because she knew she could trust Tegan and Tony. Steve took in the scene and felt immensely confused. There were papers upon papers and in the center of the table was a velvet box containing an elegant engagement ring.

'Steve, what are you doing here?' Tegan asked in a quiet voice.

Steve looked from the papers to her and felt increasingly embarrassed when he realized what he had been jealous about.

'I-' He began before Tegan cut him off.

'You got suspicious didn't you?' She asked.

He nodded and felt his cheeks turn scarlet.

'Well, now that you're here might s well tell you what's been happening.' Tony said bitterly.

'Y-you're getting engaged?' Steve asked.

'Yes, to Bri not you're girlfriend.' Tony said glaring.

'I-I'm sorry I doubted you.' Steve said turning to Tegan.

'I told Tony that you would start suspecting something.' She said taking his hand in hers.

They heard someone approach the door and Tony made a mad dash for it. He swung it open and engulfed Bri in a hug before she could see inside.

'What's this for?' Tegan heard Bri asked between giggles.

Steve and Tegan took the time being to hide the papers and ring. Steve didn't know where to hide the ring so he stuffed the box in his pocket just as Bri walked in despite Tony trying to hold her back.

'See Steve, nothing to worry about.' She said smiling.

Steve gave a nervous smile before looking at Tegan.

'Tony, not right now.' Bri said as Tony kissed her neck desperate for her to leave the office.

His nervousness was getting the best of him so finally he hoisted Bri over his should and walked out.

'Tony!' Bri said laughing as Tony led her to their bedroom.

Steve smirked at their success and left the office with Tegan by his side.

'Have fun Stark!' Steve called.

Tony opened the bedroom door and glared at him before slamming it shut again. Steve and Tegan both erupted into laughter before leaving.
