The dark expanse grew further as the lone pod hurdled its way through deep space.
A small shape huddled, just out of view from the rear viewport of the shadowed cabin. Teary eyed drops of perspiration ran down the visor of a soft creature as it braced for impact. There is a certain sense of calmed panic often felt in this kind of situation—the crew gone, the resources low, and the dazed condition caused by loss and destruction. All was silent in the vacuum of space, but sound was unreadable in a time like this. It all happened in a mere two seconds; the time it takes to blink.
In that moment, the sky exploded into a miasma of orange and yellow. Space time collapsed in on itself for a long silent moment. That's when the first shockwave hit.
Without a moment to prepare, the small craft was bashed by the sudden release of energy. A small tumbling clank echoed unheard within the pod as everything fell dark....
