Many months had passed by, and the bond between Jasmine and me grew stronger. We were both in our second year of high school, and despite the distance that separated us physically, our conversations remained unbroken, and our hearts remained entwined. Sleepless nights were spent chatting, mid-day calls were made on a whim, and video chats became the backbone of our communication. We were, in essence, inseparable.
As we entered the second year of high school, I woke up one morning feeling elated. I took a picture of myself in bed and sent it to Jasmine. The time difference between us
meant I had to wait for hours for her to see it, but when she did, her compliments flowed like honey. We were sort of dating, without making it official. Our mutual attraction and ease with each other were palpable.
When Jasmine asked if we could video chat that night, my heart raced with excitement. I quickly wolfed down my mother's delicious chicken Tajine and checked my camera and microphone before answering her call. It was the first time we would talk face to face, and I couldn't help but feel nervous.
Jasmine appeared on my screen wearing a yellow sweater that perfectly matched her blonde hair. Her blue eyes were so captivating that they drew my attention away from everything else. And that smile, oh that smile. It was contagious and forced me to smile back.
"Hello there," I said, lost in her smile and struggling to remember what to say next.
"I like your sweater, Jasmine. It matches your hair well," I finally managed to say.
"I did it on purpose because it brings out my eyes," she replied, her blush making my heart skip a beat.
"I believe your eyes would shine with any sweater," I said, my admiration for her shining through my words.
"Awww," she said, blushing even harder.
Our conversation drifted from topic to topic. We discussed our plans for the day, catching up on the latest gossip from school, and sharing stories about our families and work. With each passing minute, I found myself drawn more
deeply into the conversation, my curiosity piqued by the details she shared.
While we were joking and laughing, I felt a sense of ease and comfort settle over me, a feeling I rarely experienced in the hustle and bustle of daily life. And then, all too soon, our call drew to a close. For a moment, I felt a pang of regret, wishing we could continue talking for hours on end. It seemed she felt the same way, her gaze fixed unwaveringly on my face as we said our goodbyes. At that moment, I knew that this conversation would stay with me for a long time to come.
As the days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months, our love grew stronger. We continued to communicate every day, even during times when life got busy. We sent each other pictures, voice messages, and
even care packages. Our love was tested, but it never wavered.
Despite the distance between us, we were both committed to making our relationship work. We made plans to visit each other during holidays and summer breaks, and we looked forward to the day when we would be able to see each other every day.
As we continued to grow closer, our relationship became more serious. We talked about our future together and made plans for our lives. It wasn't easy, but our love made everything worthwhile.
