"Said if you wanted to make it as a paratrooper you had to be the best. I wanted to fight with the best, sir." - Lieutenant Carwood Lipton.

EASY COMPANY HAD FINALLY CLEARED THE WOODS EAST OF FOY.
A few days later, Easy and the rest of the 506th cleared the woods west of Foy. There was little resistance.

Charlie had spent whatever free time she could, going through the mountain of letters that finally came her way after months of not seeing Jude receive one. Between the pair, Jude was the one in charge of all of the notes from home. Charlie didn't want any part of it, as selfish as it seemed. She liked hearing about her mother and her baby sister, but she would always end up walking away after the mention of her father's name. This time, her mother had sent a long letter stating her grief from the loss of Jude that she and the rest of the family were dealing with. Charlie just couldn't feel a thing.

"Whatchya got going on there?" Nix asked coming from the side of Charlie. "Grief letter from mom," Charlie said stiffly. Nix cocked an eyebrow and tried to read the words scribbled on the paper. "Oh..."
In all honesty, Charlie was annoyed that her mother was being over the top. But at the same time, she understood that grief does strange things to people, and it takes time.

"Are You going to write back?" Winters was now on the other side of the girl also reading the letter. Charlie folded the letter back up quietly and stuffed it into her shirt pocket. "Nuh-uh,"
"Why not?" Winters frowned.
"I'm not exactly touchy-feely with my family. Not my thing," she said flatly.

"But we do know who you are touchy-feely with," Nix said sending a smirk. Charlie felt her cheeks flush and she smacked the brunette with her glove as hard as she could. Though it didn't phase him, he was laughing.
"Speak of the devil," Nixon said nodding his head behind the girl. Charlie glanced over her shoulder and saw Ron talking with a platoon leader from Dog Company. Ron was already watching them, though the man he was talking to was still mumbling to him.

"Jesus, he watches you like a hawk," Nix mutters quietly. Charlie turns her body back to the two and rolls her eyes. "He does not, it's only because I looked back at him," Charlie explains.
"I'm going to have to agree with Nix on this one, Let's not forget about the runners," Winters reminds the girl sending a small smirk.
"Dick, you're supposed to have my back!" Charlie groaned quietly. "And I do," Dick placed his hand on the side of the girl's head and lightly stroked her hair.
Dick was the first of the three to leave as he had other matters to attend to.

Lew raised his eyebrows quickly and nodded behind Charlie as a signal that he was coming over. He too, walked away leaving just Charlie and Speirs who stood behind her.

"Charlie," his rough voice speaks out. His nose was cold and pink, and he somehow found another scarf to wrap tightly around his neck.
"Ronnie," she almost sang as she fumbled with her gloves. "Doing alright? Where's the scarf I gave you?" He glanced around at her empty shoulders and saw the numerous amount of healing wounds on her face and neck. She had gotten blown pretty good, and Speirs didn't want her involved any longer. He just wanted her safe.
