As the next day approached, Charlie was up before most of the other men. She had made her way down to the Mess Hall for breakfast so she could get a head start before she found out what other evil plans Sobel had made for her and the men. Once she grabbed a tray, she heard a pair of footsteps approaching behind her."Sergeant Bloom, what a surprise," Charlie glanced behind her shoulder to see Winters and Nixon with trays in their hand. "Lieutenant Winters, Lieutenant Nixon, good to see the both of you," she gave the nod as she scooted her tray towards the Mess Officer who placed her, what they call breakfast, onto her plate. "We could say the same. We were discussing the infractions Dick had to pick on some of the men," Nixon had an amused expression on his face as he nudged the redhead.
"Infractions from last night? I'd love to hear what they were," Charlie said as they began to walk towards a table. "Had to find some," Winters said, sighing. "So, what did you do?" Nixon asked as the three placed their trays down and sat. "Picked six men and gave them latrine duty." Winters said to the two of them. Charlie shuttered and squinted an eye. "With all due respect, sir, if you give me that again, you and I are going to have a problem."
Winters gave Charlie a small smile with a chuckle. "Who were the lucky six?" Charlie asked, taking a sip from her coffee cup. "McDonald, Toye, Perconte, Lipton, Muck, and Guarnere." Nixon and Charlie gave each other a look with amusement. Charlie was just glad that it wasn't her.
"Why them?" Charlie questioned. "It was their turn," Winters said, giving Charlie a look. Nixon let another chuckle out. "Sobel's a genius. I had a headmaster just like him in prep school. I know the type." He cut into his food, and Winters sighed out of frustration.
"Lewis, Michael Angelo is genius. Beethoven is a genius." Winters pointed out, staring at Nixon.
"You know a man in this company who wouldn't double-time Currahee with a full pack just to piss in that guy's morning coffee?" Nixon said, this time lowly to the two. Charlie shrugged and took a bite of her breakfast. "You both got a point. If it's not the enemy's bullets that kill him, he still has plenty of men wanting to do the honors," She takes a sip from her cup once more. "Exactly. He doesn't pick on you often, though Charlie," Winters says, taking a bite.
"More or less. The guy complimented me yesterday, freaked me out." Charlie said, looking at the two. "He complimented you? What did he say?" Nixon asks with a shocked look on his face."He said I have room for improvement, but I have a good advantage I have yet to use to my best ability. A bit of a backhanded compliment if you ask me," Charlie mutters the last part, and Nixon lets out a laugh. "Oh, that's rich, Charlie. I would've paid good money to hear him say that." He shakes his head.
"You and everybody else, Nix."=•=•=
Charlie and the men spent the afternoon practicing jumping off a wooden platform and running difficult obstacles. Neither were difficult to Charlie, and she even questioned if she was human with how easily she achieved them.
