This was just something that inspired me when I saw the meme, They Think You're A Monster, Prove Them Right..., it's also an AU on what would happen if Ruby had Crystal powers and has no way of controlling them (this isn't tied to any other story, this is just an idea.)
Basically, in this AU, Ruby would be born with Crystal powers, which is what she would inherit from her mother, Rosemary Gloom. Back then, Rosemary met and married a man known as Gregory Gloom, who is the founder and CEO of his toy and jewelry company: Gloom's Jewel and Toy Inc. Here, Gregory helps create both jewelry and toys with jewels on them, for toys, they don't have fake jewelry, they had real jewels too, just like the jewelry line.
The jewels were originally produced from Rosemary's Crystal powers, however, Rosemary's powers became weaker when Gregory started to become greedy and power hungry, causing Rosemary and Gregory's relationship to deteriorate. Eventually, when Gregory threatened Rosemary to keep working by threatening to hurt both her friend, Poe, and their daughter, Ruby, Rosemary couldn't take it anymore. So she took infant, Ruby, to Poe's house and told him to keep Ruby safe so Gregory wouldn't find her, never tell Ruby about her or their family's existence, and so that Ruby wouldn't be in danger from Gregory's spy bots. And from then on, she left Ruby with Poe and hid.
By the time Ruby grew up, Ruby was a sweet and happy girl, thanks to Poe and his brothers. Poe taught Ruby how to be kind to others, including to those who weren't nice to her, and tried his best to keep Ruby happy. However, Poe still didn't tell Ruby about her mother or the existence of her family, so that Ruby wouldn't be in danger.
However, when Ruby accidentally created a diamond from her hand, Poe warned her to keep her powers a secret so no one would go after her, which Ruby agreed to listen. One day, she, Poe and his brothers were kidnapped by robotic toys with jewels on them, and took them over to two other robots and a man.
It was her father, Gregory, with him were his accomplices, Cherry Gloom: Rosemary's sister and Poppy Gloom: Ruby's cousin and Cherry Gloom's daughter. Gregory told Ruby the truth about Rosemary and how in his own words: "Rosemary wanted nothing to do with me and left me behind in the dust...and of course...she didn't want anything to do with you..."
This caused Ruby to feel heartbroken, a feeling she was never used to feeling. Then, she started to form tears in her eyes, instead of pitying her, Poppy, Cherry and Gregory took this opportunity to chastise Ruby for crying and say in their words "You think you have the right to cry after what you just did?" And blame her for what's become of them and how they're left to struggle after Rosemary left them, leaving Ruby to become unstable and think that everything that has happened to them was her fault.
Gregory urges Ruby to come with them, but Ruby didn't feel like wanting to go. So Gregory and the others forced Ruby to come with them by giving her an electronic shock that electrocutes Ruby for a short while and left her in pain. Gregory then threatens Ruby that it'll happen again if she didn't 'behave properly'.
Becoming overwhelmed by the truth and her fear, Ruby loses control of her powers and traps most of her surroundings into crystal, and knocking out her family, unconscious. Becoming scared of how dangerous her powers were, Ruby ran away and became afraid of hurting other people, due to her powers. Then, when she was alone, Ruby met with a darker version of herself that took form after Ruby lost control of her powers and trapped almost everything into a Crystal labyrinth. The dark version of herself tries to persuade Ruby into giving into her dark side, making her question on what she should do now...
