Tendou dropped his bag, smiling. He felt good today. His heat had ended and he was refreshed. "Good morning everyone!"
Semi looked over, huffing. "Dude..."
"What?"
"It was so quiet," he whined. He leaned into the cart of volleyballs. "I don't want to practice today. I was gonna get an extra hour of sleep."
Tendou laughed and leaned into him. "Where is my favorite captain?"
"Changing."
Tendou gasped. "Oh yay!" He hurried off to the locker rooms and easily found Ushijima in the room of teens. "Wa-kun! I missed you so much!"
"Your heats only last a few days Satori." Ushijima set down his deodorant. "Are you feeling any better?"
"Hell yeah. Bet you missed me too." Tendou grinned. He popped his fingers. "Morning practice isn't the best though."
"I don't make the schedule." Ushijima handed Tendou a folder. "Here's today's warmup. Tell me if you can't do anything and I'll substitute it for something easier."
Tendou went through the list and his heart dropped. "Shit... Toshi I can't do most of these."
Ushijima peered at the paper. "Got it. I can't substitute everything but you'll likely have to do line running."
"That's fine it's just my back-" he looked up in desperation. This felt so disgusting to talk about even if it was with the one boy who he actually talked to. Everything about him felt disgusting to talk about at this point.
"It hurts. That's okay," Ushijima said, his voice understanding in the way only a superior's felt. He set down the folder. "I'll take time to help with your back."
"You're the best. Are we still on for Friday night?"
Ushijima nodded.
"Great!" Tendou walked back to the gym and helped Semi set up. Ushijima came by and took him to the side, sitting him down to go over the things he could do. The team stretched and waited patiently.
They all knew Ushijima didn't like to pick favorites but they also knew that Ushijima would always pick Tendou over the rest of them for a little extra help. Maybe it was pure protective instinct or just him being close to Tendou but they all loved seeing this soft side of their captain.
When Tendou was done getting walked through warmups he went off on his own to do his stretches and exercise. He did get a few looks of disgust from team members he didn't talk to a lot as he kept cringing in pain from the stretching. He'd overworked himself again...
"Satori you look stuck."
Tendou cringed. "Hi Toshi."
Ushijima got on his knees and gently helped Tendou sit up. "You can not push yourself."
"I know! I can't help it!" He threw himself backwards and whined. Ushijima pulled him back up. Tendou recognized the sparks in his skin and just laughed. "What's up with you?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're touching me a lot. And I mean a lot. You hate touching people."
"I don't hate anything Satori. It's likely because you just got back. My body needs time to get used to your scent again. It changes everytime I see you."
"Mhmm?" Tendou leaned forward to ease the pain in his back.
"It does." Ushijima glanced to the team to make sure they were doing drills properly. "Do you just want to try and relax for today?"
