Thousands of generations later, humans began to seriously think about life outside Earth. It became an obsession with its built-in expectations: We are interesting and worthy to be visited. Alien intelligent life, would want to know us, of course. We would love to meet aliens, and the more advanced the better.
There was a sense, a hope, that advanced alien life had the knowledge and the desire to save us from ourselves. They would become our saviors bearing gifts with nothing but good intentions.In short, humanity has longed for a neighbor, a friendly older neighbor, who could look after us, give us a slice of home-made apple pie, and just sit with us in the evening telling us war stories.
