Procnius Albus.

Or the white bellbird; or olive green if it's a female.

A small bird native to Amazonian forests in South America, specifically in the Guinas, Venezuela, the Brazilian state of Pará, and now the halls of my school.

Except my version has long supermodel legs, bangs that defy gravity, and the most adorable smile ever. What they have in common though, is that they are both loud and I mean ear-ringing loud. These bellbirds are known to be the loudest in the world, and although they don't scream "YO YO YO" across the building they maintain their record of 125 decibels for the loudest bird call. To put it in perspective, that's as loud as a rock concert.

A beautiful way to start my mornings.

"Y/n! Are you ready?!"

I looked around and behind me to make sure Lisa was talking to me, despite her saying my name with all the air in her lungs.

I pointed at my chest jokingly, "Ready for what?"

"Nooo." Her face dropped with a pout making her bottom lip look heavy. "Did you forget?"

"Perhaps...?" I raised my eyebrow.

"Your first dance practice is today! Oh, y/n I'm gonna be the best teacher ever, this is gonna be so much fun!" The girl squealed.

She placed her long arm across my shoulders and guided me to class as she talked to me about everything she had planned and what song she was going to use to teach me.

The thing is I'm lazy, as fuck. But, I lost a bet and I joined thinking I needed the distraction either way but now that the day has arrived I was making up a million excuses in my head in alphabetical order. Actually no, we're not running away today because I need to blow some steam off.

Oh god, I had also forgotten about that.

"Lisa, what day is it today? Pinch me if it's Friday so that I know it's real." The girl took her phone out and stared at it before reaching toward me and then proceeded to pinch my bicep.

Oh fuck.

Embarrassingly enough, last night I spent my whole night rehearsing how I was going to not only come out but confess. At this moment, now that I'm closer to dealing with said issue I cursed Alice out in my head in every language known to mankind. I was only willing to do it because Roseanne didn't deserve the hurt I was causing her— still, that didn't make the weight of the confessions any lighter.

"Why what's Friday? Besides your first most awesome dance class experience?" Lisa asked. We turned into our classroom and sat down by the cabinets. Our desks are set up in rows, the white tables and red chairs complimenting the white/gray floors and white brick walls. I liked this new look of the school, it made the place look like it smelled fresh. The old building looked like I was stepping on mud and endless amounts of dirt. The fact that the old building was where people smoked and the bathrooms clogged didn't make things better.

I sat behind Lisa and she immediately removed her makeup bag from her backpack, grabbing a small comb and brush to begin adjusting her already perfect bangs.

"Nothing just slaying the Nemean lion with my bare hands." I effusively sighed.

Heracles, aka Hercules, was one of the strongest and most courageous heroes of his (mythical) time. He's known for slaying tons of monsters, underworld beings, and even mortals.

The Nemean Lion was an animal nothing like our lions — and thank god because we'd all be dead. The lion's golden silky fur was immune to man-made weapons like arrows, spears, swords, etc. But Heracles, that man could not stand by letting this dangerous creature roam and took the beast to its destined death with his own two hands. Frankly, he had no other option. He took it on with raw willpower and strength as he took the beast into a fatal chokehold dodging the sharp claws that could pierce through any armor.
