Shortly after arriving home I got ready for bed and fell asleep. The day had been long and the night felt even longer so I needed an early night's sleep. I was rudely woken up by a hand slapped over my mouth and my body felt slightly pinned down, panic quickly settles in and I try to grab the hands of the assailant and get them off, at first I only see a dark figure over me with their hood cast over their head but they quickly took the hood off, revealing the delicate features of Kit's face in the night. "Hey, hey, hey, stop. Stop" She breathes out "You almost gave me a heart attack" I Whisper yell at her, not wanting to wake my father up.

"I'm leaving, I came to say goodbye," She says to me, I try to sit up a little, she moves back slightly allowing me to fix my position however she is still straddling me, once I realised her positioning my face heated up, I am thankful for the room was dark because it meant she couldn't see how red I probably looked. It takes me a moment to really understand what she was saying to me. Leaving? 

"Kit, I understand you are upset but..." "I'm not" She interrupts me "look I'm... I'm thinking clearly for the first time in my entire life" She smiles at me "well clearly not because if you were, you would know running away isn't going to fix anything" I scold her, not wanting her to leave "This isn't about marrying Graydon... I mean it is but" there is a long pause before she speaks again, I can feel my heart racing, beating a million times per second "I'm looking for something. And it's not here, It's out there" She states, her hands resting on my shoulder as I hold myself up "beyond the barrier" She breathes out heavily, she sounds determined, and it's that determination that scares me. 

There is another long pause, neither of us saying anything, I feel her moving closer to me, her breath hot on my face. Finally, she closes the longing gap between us, and a long kiss shared between the two of us almost makes me faint, my heart felt like it was going to explode and my thoughts were scattered. This was something I had been longing to happen for ages, something I was always too scared to do... but wait. she kissed me? what does that mean? does she like me? was it just the heat of the moment kind of thing? 

"Take care of Jade, Find someone special and gives them all your love. Your heart is too big to keep it to yourself" she climbs off of me and heads for my open window, "just make sure they're not better than me" She jokes before climbing out of my room and leaving me alone once more. I was confused, unsure, of what any of what just happened meant. Not someone better than her? Her kissing me? What the hell?

After a few minutes of sitting in bed not sure what to do I finally quickly put some shoes on and rush out after Kit, I spot her walking away from Jade's house just down the street so I quickly rase over. With no surprise Jade was also outside, we gave each other a knowing look before going after Kit.

I place my hand on her shoulder and she slightly jumps at my touch "oh god" She takes a quick look at me and Jade then turns around again "You two think your gonna talk me out of this" She says "We know you well enough to know there's no talking you out of anything" I say to her, following after as she walks away "We are just asking you to wait longer" Jade adds "for what?" Kit turns around, looking at us slightly upset, though her expression quickly changes to a more excited one "You guys want to come with me?" She questions.

I let out a deep sigh and turn to Jade, letting her answer first "Kit you know what I want, I want to serve the Queen and defend Tir Asleen. if your my friend won't ask me to choose you over them" Jade says to her before giving me another look, Kit looks disappointed then turns to me "I- Kit I just think that" "Look if I don't go now I never will" She says, not letting me finish " Yeah fine, just do what you want" I scoff, turning back to Jade ready to walk away "You know, there's nothing brave about running away" Jade says I quickly jump on "it just shows that..." I quickly trail off when I watch the sudden fog emerge from behind Kit.

The two girls question why I stopped then both turn to look at the fog, the only reason it confused me was that it wasn't foggy before this, nor is it the time of year for the fog to loom through the kingdom. "Is that fog?" Jade questions, and the both of us walk up to where Kit is standing, I feel a sudden tight grip on my wrist and look down to see Kit's arm holding on, a sudden screeching sound echos nearby, startling me a bit. 

I let out a slight scream as a body falls from above, a knight. We shuffle away and then stare down at the now-dead knight, I was beyond scared, my heart racing once more. Another body falls, and Jade and I both rush to take the sword of the two fallen knights and guard ourselves against whatever is coming. The echoing sound of barking dogs from just outside the gates only makes the situation worse. A loud thump slightly shakes the ground as a massive troll-looking creature jumps down onto the ground, letting out a loud groan, a knight runs at him and with the flick of his arm, the knight is sent straight into the wall.

It quickly goes for Jade and she tries her best to defend herself, for a moment I'm frozen unsure what to do or how to help. Flashbacks hurt as I remember the 9-year-old girl that was too scared to help and the loss that it resulted in. At that second I remember the training with Jade and my Father and quickly jump in to help her. 

More knights that try to help are thrown into walls or left laying on the ground dead or unconscious, it is no surprise that the strength of this creature is unmatchable so the only other option is to defend or avoid. Kit had fallen on the ground, The creature nearing closer to her, I tried to step in and help but I was thrown off to the side, a sharp pain stabbing at my side. I hear the sound of Ballentine's voice, yelling for Jade and ordering Kit to get inside. I try my best to stand up but the pain is near unbearable. 

The sound of fighting, groans of pain and inaudible sounds from creatures surround me, I'm yet again left defenceless. back in the same spot, I was years ago, as ruin rains down on my home I am nothing but useless. I look back around and see Jade being held against the wall by the troll, he had a tight grip around her neck and she was clearly struggling, I barely choke out her name, still incredibly winded. A large sword comes down on its arm and cuts it off, Jade is released and some man I've never seen before is trying to make humour with the situation. 

Everything around suddenly drops as all the creatures begin to slowly retreat, there was no reason for them leaving but I sure as hell wasn't against it. Jade quickly came to my aid, helping them off the ground "are you ok?" She asks me, as I stand up I let out a hiss in pain wrapping my arm around my ribs to try and support the aching pain. 

The distant sound of Kit asking for people's help mixed with the sound of some housemaid calling for Arik worries me. Was Arik the one hurt? or maybe it was someone else.

Many quickly catch on that Arik is not here, the Queen was being aided "he was just behind me, fighting that witch" A knight says, referring to Arik. The maid continues to call for him hopelessly, Jade lets go of me for a second and walks over to a sword laying on the ground, Ariks sword was recognisable only because I had seen it so many times. "They took him," A voice from the front entrance says, we all turn to see Prince Graydon "I think... He's what they came for" he announces to everyone. I look over to see Kit shocked, worry consuming her. 

Who took him? why?
