"Hey! Kid!"

Nadia turned her head towards where Bob, a coworker of hers, sat at his control panel. She was currently stood in an (almost) sound-proof recording booth, taking her headphones off her head and letting them rest around her neck.

"Yeah?" She asked.

"You have lyrics, right?" Bob questioned, the girl nodded and held up her notebook.

"Whilst your mother isn't here, could you sing one of them? Any of them." Bob instructed the girl, who stared at him in surprise before replying with a thumbs up.

"Okay, good. Just tell me when you're ready and what track to play." He told her, smiling.

Nadia took a breath and put her headphones back on. Flipping gently through her notebook, she landed on one and let out a satisfied hum. "Track 2, please."

Bob nodded and pressed a button on the control before holding his thumb up. Nadia listened carefully to the beat in the headphones, nodding her head along.

Double denim
Spitting venom
Without a doubt
You know the type

Nadia took a breath and began stepping to the beat; Bob had also began nodding his head to the beat.

Devil's heaven
Sweetest lemon
Shit, but that's the guys I like

A smile crept its way onto Nadia's face as it finally began to set in that she was singing what she wanted. Making herself move to the beat with a little more energy.

Two times two
That's more than me plus you
Don't know what you're doing that for
But I don't wanna talk anymore
Anymore but

Nadia slowed down as the beat quietened.

Tongue so sweet, so saturated
Smoking his spliff 'til it's cremated
Mary and Jane so devastated
La da da da da da da da da

Nadia shook her head to the final line as her smile had become a much brighter grin. Euphoria had painted across her face.

Tongue so sweet, so saturated
Lighten up 'til you're levitating
Mary and Jane so devastated
La da da da da da da da da

Bob quietly listened, left in pure amazement as he witnessed the girl jump around in the booth. She could be so much more if her mother let her sing different genres... and yet her mother was still so against it.

La da da da da da da da da
I don't wanna talk anymore
Anymore
La da da da da da da da da
I don't wanna talk anymore
Anymore

Nadia's grin only widened further as the beat dropped, fading into her favourite part of the song.

Mister mister if she's like a sister
Why'd you kiss her?
What, to be polite?
