"My day begins at four AM every morning because the bakery opens at seven." Tom - Marinette's father - explained.

It was career day at Collège Françoise Dupont and Nadia was sitting in her usual seat without a parent, go figure. Her mother was busy, as per usual, but was told to act in her stead and explain her job for her.

She didn't argue, of course, because if she hadn't cancelled Nadia would be asking what was wrong with the woman.

"You'd think the life of a baker is pretty routine. Making the same pastries, rolls, cakes. But, actually it's different every day." The man continued to explain as Nadia eyed up the croissants on the platter.

"One day someone might order a cake in the shape of the Eiffel Tower, and another day you might have..." Nadia zoned out as she looked out the window and into the corridor to see Adrien on the phone. Looking around the room, she realised that he was probably in a similar situation to her and couldn't help but feel bad for the boy.

She was snapped out of her thoughts when the class began clapping for the man, causing her to look around in confusion and clap along with them.

As Adrien sat back down, the clapping stopped and Marinette's father spoke once again, "Marinette will come around and pass out some croissants baked fresh this morning."

"Thank you, Mr Dupain." Ms Bustier thanked the man as he walked to stand near the wall. "Now let's meet Nadia's mum, who is Nadia's manager!"  The class looked back at the girl and she shrunk in her seat slightly.

"Nadia..? Where's your mother?" Ms Bustier asked the girl as she stood up from her seat and made her way to the front.

"Oh. She's busy." Nadia replied with a small smile. The class frowned at her reaction, making the girl wonder what she had done wrong. Adrien was a different story, he felt a little better knowing it wasn't just him alone on Career day.

"Too busy for her child..?" Ms Bustier frowned.

"Yeah. I got told to "act in her stead" so I'll be explaining her job for you." Nadia explained to the woman whose frown only deepened.

"Does this happen often?" She asked.

"Oh yeah, all the time." Nadia nodded, Ms Bustier scribbled something down on her clipboard and looked at the girl.

"Maybe it'd be better for you to sit this one out." Ms Bustier suggested with a sad smile.

Nadia shrugged and walked back up to her seat just in time for Marinette to walk up to her desk with croissants.

"Croissants?" She asked both Nadia and Nathaniel quietly as Alya's mum began to speak.

Nathaniel nodded with a polite smile, Marinette placed one on his desk and turned to Nadia, standing patiently as she had an inner battle with herself.

After a minute, Marinette couldn't help but worry for the girl so she spoke up, "Nadia, are you okay?"

Shaking her head, Nadia looked up at the girl in surprise before her surprise morphed into a smile. "Sorry! Yeah, yeah I'm fine."
