Meeting the Mystery Man

Cassie quickly gets off the plane, always hating flying. She walks outside and sees Antonio Sandoval, current mafia leader for the Ruthless Charade's. She grins and walks over to him.

"Hey Toni! Good to see you again," Cassie beams at him.
He smiles and gives her a hug, "How was Russia?" He asks taking her bag and walking to his car.

"Oh amazing! I'm finally fluent in Russian like I've always wanted to be. It is nice to be back in such warm weather though. Being in Russia for the winter definitely has its cons."
Toni laughs, "I'm sure."
"How's the mafia been without me?"

"Oh a mess. I tried getting a temporary assistant but that sure as hell didn't work. I definitely need my assistant back."
Cassie laughs, "Okay, let's go to the graveyard first and then we can go to hq."
Antonio grins and heads to the graveyard. He parks and let's Cassie have her time. She walks up to her parents grave.

"Daniel's not dead, right? He wouldn't do that without calling me and saying goodbye. Did he fake his own death? What's he hiding from if he did? Maybe someone kidnapped him? I'll find him, I promise."
Cassie walks back to Toni's car and gets in. They head to hq and get there 10 minutes later. They walk in and Cassie goes straight to her office to work.

*One week later*
Cassie's headed to her best friends house, Penelope, who's also in the mafia with her own group. She doesn't even knock on the door when she gets there, she just walks in.

"Penelope?" Cassie calls into the house.
"In my room!" Penny yells down.
Cassie heads upstairs and walks into her room to see her getting ready for a date.
"Are you going out?"
"Yeah! Remember that French guy I told you about?"

"Yeah?"
"Well, we've been going out..."
"Awww that's amazing Pen! I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks! Did you need something?"
"Uh, never mind haha."

"You sure?"
"Yeah, you're already busy," Cassie grins, "I promise it's fine."
"Okay..."
"Have fun tonight! I'll see you later."
"Okay!"

Cassie leaves a little disappointed but she ignores it. She heads over to Toni's house and knocks on the door. She sees his car there but all the lights are off. She tries the door and it's unlocked so she walks in, closing it behind her.
"Hello? Toni?" She calls out but is met with silence.

A man about 6'3 walks around a corner, "He's safe, I can take you to him if you'd like."
"Who are you?"
The man is now right in front of Cassie, towering over her, "My name is Volkov Gusev."
Cassie can hear the Russian accent, "You're Russian?"
"I am."

Toni's about his height and so is Magnus... so why am I so intimidated by him? Cassie thinks as she stares at him.

"You're Cassandra Vilseas, right?"
"How do you know who I am?"
"I know quite a bit about you."
"Yeah? Like what?"

"You don't drink coffee, only hot chocolate. You're dating Magnus Bane. You're brother, Daniel, commit suicide. Your parents were abusive and were murdered. And you and Toni used to have an affair, before Magnus. You don't like flying and you're not a leader of any mafia groups. You want to be though, a little bit."
Cassie's body stiffens. She pulls Volkov down to her height by his shirt collar.

"You can take me to Antonio?"
"I can, we're here to help not harm."
They stare at each other for a good while, "Okay, let's go."
Volkov leads Cassie up to the helicopter on the roof.

"You just told me I hate flying and yet you want me to fly?"
"It won't be long, I promise."
Volkov helps Cassie onto the helicopter and then gets in next to her. She keeps her eyes closed the entire time. Like Volkov said, it doesn't take long to get there. He helps Cass off the helicopter and then leads her into the tall building. They walk into a large room where a man is waiting for them.

"You have Antonio?" Cassie asks, getting straight to the point.
"I do, and you'll get him back, but I'd like to talk to a leader," The man tells her.
"Well too bad you're not getting one. Just hand him over."
"No can do kiddo, now, I wanted you here because you have access to a few leaders, I need them."

"Um, no? You can talk to me."
He sighs, "Volkov, show her the exit. She's not going to cooperate."
"Yes sir," Volkov nods and grabs Cassie's arm, leading her out.

They get outside that room and Cassie yanks her arm away and takes off down a random hallway. She hides in a little spot, being small and petite. Once Volkov and a few other guys pass her, she sneaks out and goes back to the boss.

"I want Toni back!" She demands.
"No. Now go away, peasant."
Volkov runs in and pulls out a taser, "One last chance to do this the easy way."
"Go ahead," She glares at him.

He turns the taser on and uses it. Cassie fights against it and when he's finally done, she's weak and hurting. Volkov carry's her out to his car and takes her back to her apartment.
