You had just found Joel's brother Tommy, he was staying in this comfy little commune called The Jackson Community in the middle of nowhere with his soon-to-be wife.

You loved this little community, but you could tell Joel thought otherwise. But even if it wasn't for a while you thought it would be good for Ellie to socialize with kids her age and live a somewhat normal life for a couple of months and go to school too. But that wasn't the only reason... a couple of weeks ago you had come to the conclusion that you could be pregnant, and as time had gone by your suspicions had only been proved to be true. It's not like you could go to the pharmacy and buy a pregnancy test, but as your period became later and later you couldn't help but worry because sooner than later you would have to tell Joel. Lately, you had been finding yourself taking walks at night just so you could have space to cry, pathetic right? But you felt trapped and for the first time in your life, you didn't know what to do. You found yourself getting anxiety attacks often, but you obviously wouldn't let anyone see them. But you had started to grow so tired of having to put up a facade that you were okay, that your whole mood had taken the brunt of it. Over the last two months you had grown noticeably snappy and just moody in general, not to Maria and Tommy but mostly to your inside circle meaning Joel and Ellie.

You, Joel, and Ellie were all sitting at the dinner table in one of the houses that you were staying in. You sat quietly while you ate your chili, an awkward silence filled the room.

"I've decided we're leaving tomorrow," Joel spoke up his words made you drop your spoon into the bowl with a loud 'clink' you felt like you almost wanted to throw up, so you take a deep breath.

"You know what Joel you don't always get to call the shots." You snap looking up. "I think we should stay here for a little while," You say looking at him dead in the eyes, you could see a change in Joel's demeanor.

"Ellie go to your room," Joel says sternly not breaking eye contact with you, as soon as Ellie's bedroom door shuts Joel speaks again.

"What's been up with you lately (Y/N)? I don't know what's wrong but this isn't you," He says still holding eye contact, you look away as you feel it crushing you.

"I don't know Joel," You sigh staring at the ground.

"We just can't leave," You say daring to look back up at him.

"Why not (Y/N)?" He says challenging you.

"Joel I'm not doing this right now," You say your throat burning as your voice starts to shake.

"I'm not considering it until you tell me why," He says his tone raising, you felt another anxiety attack coming on. The tips of your fingers started to get tingly as you felt your face heating up, you could barely control your breathing as tears filled your eyes as you got out of your chair.

"I'm pregnant Joel," You whisper tears streaming down your face you couldn't even look at him, "Is that what you want to hear?" You raised your voice, "I'm pregnant and I feel so trapped and lost, I don't know what to do." You whisper not being able to control the tears falling from your eyes.

You looked up at Joel and his expression was unreadable. "How far along?" He whispers in a dangerously quiet tone, "At least two months," You mumble looking at your feet, feeling embarrassed if anything.

"I need to go on a walk," he says in an emotionless manner. In that moment you felt your whole world crash down. When the front door slammed shut you sat down on the floor as you let out a sob, as the pit growing in your stomach got bigger and bigger. The tips of your ears were hot and the uncomfortable tingle that you felt on your hands was now spreading on your cheeks.

"Hey (Y/N)," Ellie peeps her head into the kitchen with a sympathetic expression on her face. She slowly walked over and put her arm around you, you slowly wrap your arms around her embracing the hug "It's gonna be okay? We're all here for you," She says softly. "I bet you Joels happy... He's just shocked," She says trying to reassure you.

"Of course, you didn't actually go in your room," You mumble. You weren't mad in any other situation you may have even laughed a little, you definitely weren't surprised that she was eavesdropping though.

"Well, I mean-"

"It's fine," You mumble into her shoulder.

"I'm sorry you have to see this-," You slowly let go of the hug looking Ellie into her eyes, when you flinch at the sound of the door opening. You look up and see and see Joel looking extremely frazzled.

You slowly stand up, "I'm so sorry Joel-" He cuts you off, "Don't apologize (Y/N), never, ever apologize, my reaction was out of line... I just wish you would have told me sooner" He says pulling you into a tight hug while he held the back of your head in his hand, clinging you to his chest. At this moment you felt an overwhelming sense of peace, it was like a breath of fresh air. "I love you so much (Y/N), I can't believe you're going to make me a dad again." He says sniffling, "It's just a lot to process." You let out a dry chuckle, "You're telling me," you say wiping your eyes.

"Come over here," you say waving over to Ellie so we all had a group hug, she smiles gladly walking over. Ellie lets go as we all look at her "Does this mean I'm technically gonna be a big sister?" She asks as you feel yourself crying again, this time it's happy tears though.

"Yea your gonna be a big sister." You say smiling at her while laughing a little. This time when you looked over at Joel his expression isn't unreadable, he was smiling.

"I'm gonna be a dad." He whispers in disbelief as he places his hand on your lower stomach.

"I gotta go tell Tommy!" He says pointing to the door with a big smile places on his face.

You finally could have the family you've always wanted
