The morning sun hung low over the Outer Banks, casting a warm glow on the marsh as the HMS Pogue cruised along, slicing through water that was still a little rough from the storm. Gracie leaned against the boat railing, watching the Cut drift by in shades of blue and green, dotted with debris from Hurricane Agatha. They passed docks strewn with broken boards and people sweeping up tangled branches, their faces weary but determined.

John B let out a low whistle, taking it all in. "Agatha, what did you do?"

JJ scanned the damaged docks and rooftops, spotting neighbours attempting to put things back in order. "Sure hope Guffy's boat didn't sink."

"Oh, shoot, yeah," Gracie murmured, glancing over at JJ. "He doesn't have insurance, does he?"

JJ shook his head, sighing with exaggerated sympathy. "Poor Guffy. Always the one to end up without a safety net." He raised a hand, waving at a couple on their dock. "Good morning!"

Gracie snickered, giving JJ a nudge. "Not even a hurricane can stop you from socialising, huh?"

He shrugged, unbothered. "Some of us care about the community, Carver."

They cruised along, with John B and JJ calling out "good morning" to various neighbours on their docks, until JJ's face lit up as they neared another dock. "Hi, Miss Amy! You guys get through it?"

Miss Amy gave him a little wave, calling back, "Still here!"

John B turned to JJ with a smirk, holding out his hand to dap him up. JJ's grin stretched wide as he chuckled. "Did you see that? She totally looked at me."

"Oh, yeah, she definitely looked at you," John B replied, grinning.

Gracie rolled her eyes, leaning against the railing with her arms crossed. "Right, because almost drowning in a hurricane just screams romance."
