════════════════════════════The world of the unseen is full of life: souls, whisps, and banshees floating about. The world was different, separate from where the living walked and roamed. The world was a library, collecting stories and videos, archiving memories of pasts untold. Lit up by round light, low-grade souls forever bound to the spirit realm, the solace was never dark but never quite bright.
"This place is such a downer."
"I find it quite enchanting," Reap replied. Akari scribbled on a scroll, dipping her quill in a floating inkwell.
"Everything is so dim unless you walk past one of those whisps."
"This isn't the land of the living," he reminded her, laying his head on his arms. "But I would feel bad for the humans if their world was this dark."
"And yet they foolishly spend their days killing that light for their greedy desires. How ironic."
"The similarity in your speech patterns is unnerving," Reap said, hearing her banter. "You spend too much time with him."
Akari shrugged her shoulders, examining her portrait, an image she retrieved from her book of memories while still alive. Grim shrunk to the size of a child, sitting on her window ledged, looking over her with his glowing blue eyes.
"The accuracy of that portrait disturbs me."
"Grim!" she jumped to her feet, embracing the boy. He flinched, still not used to physical contact.
"Yes, it's good to see you as well, Akari. Please, release me."
"Keep holding him."
Grim pulled Reap's energy into his hand, forming a scythe he hooked on his back.
"Master called for me on the way. You have an assignment."
"Oh, my first one," she said fatly.
"Don't get too excited," he replied, matching her tone. They found the center of the library, deep in the library, where grew a spirit tree. Its leaves glowed a haunting purple as it pulsed thick waves of dark energy. It was overwhelming, and only a few reapers could even approach it.
Akari herself was still weak for a soul reaper, always holding Grim's hand when they passed. Entering their Master's office, the pressuring feeling of doom dissipated.
"Greetings, Grim, Akari."
"Am I so undeserving of your attention?" Reap said.
"Perhaps ask Grim to cuddle you if you're so desperate."
Akari held back a laugh, seeing the appalled expression on Reap's face.
"Akari."
"Yes, Master," she replied, straightening herself.
"I'm sure Grim has informed you of the circumstance."
"He has. I will not disappoint."
"Good. Grim will supervise you. You can refer to him for help."
