Chapter 19

Taehyung almost jumped out of his own skin when the patrolling group stormed unannounced into the den, their bodies tense and eyes wild, raging with a fusion of fiery emotions. His eyes immediately found Namjoon's towering frame amongst the others, and Taehyung could see the way Namjoon's hawk-like eyes scanned the den intently before their eyes locked for a brief second. Then Namjoon instantly shot forwards, reaching Taehyung in just a few steps before he pulled his mate into a tight, desperate embrace.

It was confusing and very overwhelming, the greeting Namjoon gave him. Namjoon was always excited to see him when he would return back home after a day outside, and Taehyung was used to Namjoon practically clinging to him from the moment he stepped into the den to the moment he left the next morning. It was nice to be so wanted and cherished. But Namjoon's hugs weren't normally this... powerful.

Namjoon's arms were squeezing around Taehyung's smaller frame tightly, never once loosening his grip even just a tiny bit as if he was afraid that if he let go, Taehyung would disappear into thin air. Namjoon hugged Taehyung so tightly that it was beginning to hurt as Taehyung found it challenging to breathe in enough air. He remained quiet though, sensing the waves of unease and desperation oozing from Namjoon, and Taehyung could tell that the best thing he could do for his lover at that very moment was to simply let his own presence soothe and calm Namjoon down as much as humanly possible.

As Namjoon squeezed him tightly, he leaned his head down into the crotch of Taehyung's neck, hiding his face and inhaling deeply, allowing his mate's scent to calm his nerves. It almost sounded like Namjoon was out of breath, gasping for air, but with his whole aura off, Taehyung knew that that wasn't the case.

With Namjoon slightly stooping, Taehyung was able to peek over Namjoon's shoulder and regard the rest of the patrolling wolves that had just arrived alongside Namjoon. To his surprise, all of them also appeared to be on the edge, eyes wild and bodies shivering ever so slightly. He watched as they sprinted over to their own little spaces in the den, hovering over and guarding their own mates and offsprings. The patrolling wolves immediately began to scent their mates and pups thoroughly while at the same time, breathing in their families' calming and soothing scents which in turn settled them somewhat.

The unmated patrolling wolves, however, looked more lost as they stood closer to the entrance of the den. They had no mates or pups that could calm their uneasiness, and thus, after a few moments of uncertainty, they turned to each other or the remaining unmated wolves of the pack for comfort.

Taehyung allowed himself to take a quick glance in Jimin's direction and saw the other human standing on his sleeping blanket with Yoongi next to him, who was surprisingly in his human form. Yoongi was leaning heavily against Jimin, almost causing the younger man to fall over with the force. It wasn't a shove though, nothing ill-willed in the slightest.

Taehyung recognised it for what it was; it wasn't a hug per say, not like the one Namjoon was giving him at that very moment, but perhaps it was the closest thing to a hug that Yoongi was willing to give, even in such a panicked state. The intention and the raw, desperate emotions behind Yoongi's moves were crystal clear to Taehyung, and he knew he didn't have to be able to see Yoongi's eyes himself to know exactly what emotions Jimin was seeing in them right now.

And that made his hair stand on end.

Whatever happened today, something had seriously scared the patrolling wolves, all of them, so much that Yoongi was desperate enough to actually touch Jimin with not just his hands or cock but with the entire front of his body pressed against him with such desperation and urgency. Yoongi was fucking resting against Jimin, he was seeking comfort from him.

Taehyung looked away from the pair and frowned, biting his lip; it was still light outside, and the sun wouldn't set for at least a few hours. The group was back early, way earlier than they usually were.
