Chapter 8 - sunshine

"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine."

T.P. POV
The airship took all the applicants to the third phase of the exam which was weird tower of sorts.

Beans, who is the short green bean looking guy,  cleared his throat to stop all of the chatter coming from the applicants. "Everyone, this is the site of the Hunter Exam's third phase." Beams said with his usual cheery smile. "You'll be competing here at the top of the trick tower." He continued. "Did you say trick tower?" Someone asked. "In order to pass this phase. You must reach the base of the tower alive. The time limit is 72 hours. And with the Exam's third phase will now begin. Good luck to each and every one of you." Beans explained before leaving.

The applicants all searched around for a way down the tower. Gon went to the edge of the round sphere shaped tower and looked down. Y/n came behind him and pulled his backpack to get him away from the edge. "Woah!" Gon yelled. "DAYUMM that's far down!" She said. "Now what? Are we supposed to climb down?" Leorio asked. "Well, I hope not. That would be suicide." Kurapika said. A man comes up behind the group of 5 and chuckles, "Sure, for most guys. But for an expert rock climber like me, this is gonna be a piece of cake." He said as he started to climb down. "Oh wow." Killua said. "Look at how fast he's going!" Gon added. The man chuckled again, "By the look of things, I'm about to be the first one to pass the third phase." He said as he continued climbing.

Suddenly there was a thudding sound and the sound of wings flapping. The group, including the man, looked around curiously. Red and purple looking creatures flocked to the man and the g one swallowed him whole as he screamed. "Uh, so, I guess we can't climb down, not this way at least." Leorio said. "Yeah"

It had been about 30 to 45 minutes and Y/n still hadn't found a way down the tower. Kurapika suddenly came to a stop while walking. "What's up?" Leorio asked as both he and Y/n stopped with Kurapika. "There are fewer people around." Kurapika said. "What?" Leorio asked. "I count 23. So nearly half the applicants have already found an exit." Kurapika said. "When did that happen?" Leorio asked. "We're missing something. but what is it?" Kurapika said, "There must be hidden doors up here somewhere that lead to the lower floors of the tower." Kurapika explained. "Hmm..." Y/n hummed curiously. "Kurapika, Leorio, Y/n!" Gon waved at his friends from afar.

Once they were all together again, Gon explained how he and Killua had found a trap door. He also explained that the 5 of them would all go through the each trap door. "Works for me. Seems like luck is part of the game or something." Leorio said. "Count me in!" Y/n said. "No objection here. That settles it." Kurapika agreed. The five of them all stepped next to where the doors were and started counting, "I guess that means this is goodbye for now, guys." Gon said. "We'll meet up at the base of the tower." Kurapika said. "Let's do this! One..." Killua started. "Two..." Gon continued. "Three!" They all said together as they went through the trap doors.

The five of them all landed at the destination that the trap doors took them only to find that they had all ended up at the same place. "Wait, what?" Leorio said. Gon and Killua looked at each other and then laughed. "That was certainly a brief farewell." Kurapika said. "No kidding! I don't think any of us expected all those hidden doors to lead us all to the same room." Leorio added.

The five of them walked up to a small sphere shaped table with writing above it. "Hey, look at this!" Gon said, "the six who drop into this chamber must find their way down together by the consensus of the majority." Gon read. "Wait, six?" Leorio questioned. "Look! They even left us six wrist timers." Gon said looking at the table in front of him. "Is this some kind of escape room or something?" Y/n asked. "Hmm...that could be a possibility..." Kurapika said as he and the other picked up their wrist timers. "With buttons marked 'X' and 'O'" Killua stated. "Do you think it's possible that we won't be able to leave this room at all until a sixth person joins." Kurapika asked as they all put on their watches. "Very good!" A voice says from out of no where. "Who's there?!" Leorio yelled. "My name is Lippo. I'm the prison warden here." Lippo says from over a speaker. "Did he say prison warden?" Kurapika questioned. "We've gone to the trouble of preparing multiple routes through the tower, and the one you've chosen is the path of majority rule. If you want to pass, and I'm sure you do, co-operation is the essence of success. One person acting selfishly could derail the entire group. And of course, you won't be permitted to start until you have six members present. That's it. Best of luck!" Lippo explained.
