the pictures of you that i found
i have them saved in a folder
with your name plastered to it
at the pool, all smiles,
over the phone, all smiles
you ask me to send you poems
i roll my eyes
but then i send the silly poems anyway
we're so young
there's a strange sadness to it
like sand slipping between my fingers
we try to be close
but you're so far away
and i'm even farther
will i come see you?
the question lies unanswered
the poems lie unsent
sometimes i go through my emails
and almost cry
how does one year turn to two, two to three? the beaded bracelet
you gave her the first time you met her
and i delete the folder
clear out my emails
listen to your songs
it's sad, alright, but i'm still young
i wish you on your birthday,
you wish me on mine
in our own orbits, we stay,
we watch,
we reminisce
