Sonic opened his eyes slowly, being introduced to a dim room.

The window was covered, making the room relatively dark.

It was also a little cold too, as he felt his nose vaguely numb.

He managed to sit up, feeling soreness in his right arm.

They probably stuck him with a needle or something when he wasn't conscious.

Or maybe he was just being paranoid and just slept wrong.

He remembered being carried, but it was very fuzzy.

He didn't know where he was, and why he was even here.

His eyes trailed around the room slowly, as his eyes hurt a small bit when they moved too fast.

He had a headache, but he didn't know if he was going to get it treated anytime soon.

It smelled like a hospital, which didn't make Sonic feel better at all.

The only thing he liked was how comfortable the bed was, and how dark the room was.

He got up slowly, walking over to the door.

He slowly attempted to turn the knob, but the knob was not budging.

He thought that he wasn't using enough force, so he applied more.

It got to the point where he was putting so much force on it that he realized that the door was locked, as it still wasn't moving.

"What the hell?" He said to himself groggily.

He was locked in a dark room with no sense of direction at all.

His anxiety started to kick in slightly, but he thought that they knew what was best for him.

As he was trying not to fall asleep in the waiting room, he was told that they were going to put him in a room and have him stay there for a few months.

He couldn't remember the rest that they said to him.

But here he was, in that room, they were talking about.

Except he didn't like the fact that he was literally locked in.

The little control made him uncomfortable.

But he tried to calm himself down by going back to the bed, getting into the covers this time.

The covers smelled like fresh linen, which seemed to calm him down fast.

He knew that he was in a professional establishment, so because of that, he had no reason to worry, right?

He closed his eyes, attempting to rest.

But after a few minutes of finally calming down, he heard the door handle shake.

He shot his eyes open, watching the handle.

He watched the door get unlocked, and the handle twist down fully.

He got a wave of nervousness as the door opened.

He sat up fully, his heart beating harshly.

He watched a dark figure walk in, closing the door behind him.

He sighed slightly, staying tense.

Sonic was glad that it was another hedgehog, as everyone he had interacted with until now was some other animal.

Maybe he would be easier at understanding.

"Hello, Sonic. I'm going to be your caretaker in between tests and exams, Dr. Robotnik."

Sonic continued to stare at him, not sure what to say.

"How are you feeling?" He asked blankly.

He had probably asked this question over and over again.

More times than Sonic could count on his fingers.

"I'm... alive," Sonic replied.

Shadow chuckled at his response.

"Great to see that."

Sonic looked at the clipboard that he was holding.

They had barely started talking and he was already writing stuff down.

"Why did you lock the door?" Sonic asked, his nervousness peeking through.

Shadow looked up at him.

"Well, I didn't want you wandering around. Sorry if that scared you, how long have you been awake?" Shadow walked over to his window, raising the blinds slowly.

Sonic squinted lightly.

"I think maybe half an hour?" He replied.

Shadow hummed.

He then stepped away from the window, somewhat leaning on the counter behind him.

"Alright, I'm going to do a basic examination on you, just to see if you have any injuries we need to be worried about. I'm also doing to do a blood test."

Sonic whimpered quietly.

"I can't really say no, can I?" He asked shakily.

Shadow raised his shoulders.

"Well, you can, but it will just make everything longer. Surely you would want things to go faster, right? Just to get it over with?"

Sonic nodded stiffly.

Shadow asked him to get out of bed fully so that he could measure his height and weight, just to make sure they were accurate with his report.

He measured his BMI, and his suspicion was correct.

They were going to have to get some weight on him.

He did a quick full body examination and then went into the cabinets for the blood testing supplies.

"Is it going to hurt?" Sonic asked quietly.

It was a common question that Shadow got, so he didn't think much of it.

"I've been administering needles for over five years; I can assure you that I won't hurt you." He responded.

Sonic nodded again, looking down.

Shadow asked for his arm and put the needle into it.

Sonic squeezed his eyes shut, only to feel nothing.

He sighed, and that's when the trust journey started.

The blood test was painless, and very quick too.

Most of Sonic's nervousness had disappeared at this point.

After Shadow took out the needle and put a bandage around his arm, he wrote down more notes on his clipboard.

"It might be a little sore later, so do be mindful of that," Shadow said while he kept writing.

"Okay, thanks."

"Your plasma levels are low, and so is your fat content. So, what I'm going to do is talk to one of our DTRs and get that fixed for you. We might even have to do a plasma transplant if we continue to have problems." Shadow analyzed.

Sonic was somewhat surprised by how much he knew but had to remind himself that he was a doctor.

"Okay..." Sonic managed.

He sat there, letting his body relax.

He felt like he knew that he was in good hands.
