A deafening thunderclap tore open the sky and a single, shimmering orb emerged from a gaping hole in the space-time continuum. The orb resolved mid-air into what appeared to be a human form, which plummeted downwards, ultimately landing feet first on the ground below, unharmed. The hole then disappeared as quickly as it had formed.

The mind-bending journey through the vast sea of infinite blackness between universes would have brought most humans to the edge of madness. But then, Elise Winchester was not entirely human.

Her hands clutched tightly around her archangel blades in a reverse grip, Elise's eyes glowed a piercing amber as she surveyed her surroundings. Only seconds ago, she had been right on the tail of her target, now the only thing in her view was a field of snow and a long stretch of railroad tracks atop a nearby embankment.

A light blizzard blew, but to her prey-driven senses, it might as well have been a gentle spring breeze. Turning her nose upward, she picked up the scent of her quarry. He...was not far.

Flicking her wrists upward, her blades vanished into thin air. Given the nature of her mission, Elise determined that her next best course of action would be to assume a form more suited to the surrounding area. Then she proceeded to transform.

The bones of Elise's body at once began to readjust themselves, her spine elongating and the shoulder blades pushing forward. She dropped to all fours as her leg bones shortened and her jaw expanded. Thick white fur spread over her now more muscular body and a tail erupted from the end of her spine. Only a few seconds had passed, but Elise was now a large white wolf.

Elise bounded up the embankments gentle incline and peered down the long stretch of track, the end of which was concealed by the white haze of dense, falling snow. All her instincts told her that she needed to follow those tracks to wherever they might lead.

She gave a low growl. I'm coming for you!

The she-wolf took off sprinting down the tracks, her thick tail whipping up snowflakes as she vanished into the storm.
