She never cared in the first place. And as he watched her walk down the stairs it was obvious. She didn't see him. Tear stained cheeks with red tracing their rims. He reached out to try and help, and she only pushed him away.

It was like he wasn't even there. A spirit of the past. He couldn't fix this. Not this problem and not in this lifetime. For he was the problem.

His last thoughts were of alternate routes he could have taken. Of paths he left undiscovered, of things he never experienced.

But, in his eyes, he left only pain in his wake. He ruined the only thing he had. He had ruined the only good thing in his life. He had nothing. He was tired of running.

Although, if he really thought, this was the biggest trip he'd take. One with no way to return. He knew it was the only path that would end the pain for certain.

So when he heard the door open he smiled. She would no longer be burdened by him. She would no longer be sad. And as his body went numb he swore he heard cheering.

At his wake, she was the first to talk, and the least consolable. She watched as her love laid there, hair chopped short and blemishes covered with makeup that fit his skin tone too well.

He looked so unlike himself. Like he was a stranger in his own body. She couldn't stand it, gathering as much wit to herself as she could, she left.

When she reached the house she shared with him, she shattered. She laid in bed, sobbing her heart out until she slept. She dreamt of the ways she could have fixed it, how he could still be there.

A week later, she was clearing out his drawers, and broke again. She found a box, with a single amethyst imbedded into it. She couldn't stand it. It was too much.

So she packed her things, and left. She moved until she was out of land. And then She let herself live. And she let herself die.

When she arrived she was devasted. She couldn't find her love anywhere. Only to find he had left her. Alone once again. Just like he wanted.
