The next day I wake up to someone pounding on my door. With a blurry glance at the alarm clock on the night stand I groan and sit up. 4:30pm. Great, I slept the entire day away.
I sigh and run my hands over my face. My eyes are swollen and puffy from crying myself to sleep and a migraine threatens to hinder my ability to function. With a deep breath I get up and go to the door to see Toni and Claire outside with concerned looks.
"Oh thank god." Claire mumbles.
"What the hell happened?" Toni says in a firm tone.
I sigh as I glance down the hall hoping to see June but she wasn't there.
"Luke was in my room waiting to surprise me when we got back." I say as I let them in.
"Awww! That's sweet!" Claire said oblivious to what happened last night.
I ignore her and dig in my bag for headache pills.
"Oh no." Toni says softly.
"What? Why 'oh no'?" Claire asks.
"Because June and I...kissed last night...a lot." I say after I fill a glass of water and take the medicine.
"What?!" She yells as she stares at me in shock.
Toni pats her leg and gives her a look keeping her quiet.
"Ignore her." Toni says. "What happened? I don't see him or his stuff here."
I take a deep breath before sitting on the couch opposite of them.
"He said he got a promotion and that we were moving to Australia." Claire's eyes widened a little bit. "I told him that I wasn't going to move to Australia with him because I had gotten a job offer to go to Scotland and that I was going to take it. We argued about that for a while but then I told him that while I have been here I realized how unhappy I have been with him. We never talk, go out on dates, and we both just want completely different things in life."
Toni and Claire sit and listen as I tell them everything.
"Then I told him that while I have been here I have realized that I have feelings for someone else and that I kissed them. At first he was angry but then he suddenly just stopped and looked at me and asked me if I was gay. I just stared at him for a moment before replying with 'I don't think I'm gay but I am gay for them'."
Claire's mouth dropped open and Toni smiled so big I thought it would get stuck that way.
"He took it surprisingly well. He agreed to us wanting different things and apologizing for assuming I would just move with him. He left and got himself his own room. Then I passed out because it was early in the morning." I say as I lean back on the couch feeling spent. Again.
"Wait a second...can we go back to the part where you kissed June?" Claire says with a look of pure shock. "Oh my God!"
Toni rolls her eyes. "Is it really that much of a surprise? I called this back in college."
"What?" I say in surprise trying not to laugh.
"Oh come on. You were always checking her out and when we went to parties you were always touching her." Claire began nodding agreeing with Toni. "You guys always seemed to....click."
"Oh my God. You're right." Claire says quietly as she thinks back.
"I'm an idiot for not noticing it sooner." I say defeated and glancing at the door conjoining our rooms. "Fuck..." I groan.
"She looked pretty upset but I'm assuming she doesn't know that you and Luke broke up?" Toni says softly. I shake my head. "Well it sounds like you need to find her and tell her."
