Malachai threw himself on the grey couch in his living room as he returned home, he sat the nerve plant gently onto the glass table that was placed Infront of said grey couch.

He sighed, today has been a busy day.

Being your girlfriend's personal driver, attending football practice, school and taking care of a plant in one day isn't easy.

Which is why when his phone started ringing he was reluctant to answer it at first but upon seeing the name of the number calling him he quickly leaped up to collect his phone that was sat next to the nerve plant.

"Hello, Dad?" Malachai spoke as he brought the phone up to his ear.

"You idiot, I specifically asked you to put the paper in the front pocket, well guess what? It's not there!" His father's deep voice yelled through the phone.

Malachai blinked, "What paper?" He whispered to himself, that's when his memory came back to him, earlier today his father had asked him to put a paper with a number on it in his bag before he left, he could've sworn he put it in.

"But I did." He spoke quietly, trying to be as polite as possible.

"Then why isn't it here?!" Malachai's father yelled back.

"I— " Malachai was about to answer when his black eyes landed on the paper his dad was talking about, it was hiding under the glass table.

Malachai pursed his lips, he knew he'd fucked up, now he just had to face the consequences.

"I— I found it." He said hesitantly before squeezing his eyes shut, waiting for the series of insults that would soon come spewing out of his father's mouth.

"You see how stupid you are?! I asked you to do one thing Malachai, One thing! How hard is it to put a paper inside a fucking bag?! Are you that dumb?! Oh wait don't answer that."

And with that he cut the call, leaving Malachai with nothing but silence as his eyes darted around trying to keep the tears clouding his vision from falling out.

That's when his eyes landed on the nerve plant, he stared at it deeply as he slowly put his phone down.

"I'm pathetic aren't I? Crying just cause someone called me stupid?" He chuckled to himself as he stared at the plant as if waiting for a response.

"Now I'm talking to a fucking plant, I've lost it."

He sighed and laid down vertically on the couch, turning to face the plant.

"No, he didn't mean to say those things to me, he's actually a nice guy he just has a bit of a temper." He spoke, as if he was communicating with the plant.

Silence came again and Malachai's eyes softened, almost as if the plant had said something during that moment of silence.

"He's done this a couple times before, no biggie." He shrugs, "Ma does it too sometimes."

Silence came again.

"Well, no I don't think they've ever done it to my brother before." He said furrowing his eyebrows.

Silence.

"You twat, you don't know what you're talking about, who the fuck are you to call my parents fucking emotional abusers? What do you know anyway, you're just a stupid plant." He yelled at particularly no one as he stood abruptly from the couch, pointing his finger at the plant angrily.

He soon lowered his hand as he brought his face up to the plant, slowly picking it up and putting it in his lap.

"Your name is now Denvis." He said calmly before setting the plant back down on the glass table.
