"Xavier, dear, I'm in need of your assistance. there's a task that must be taken care of in the underworld."
Xavier was startled. "angels do business in the realm of demons?"
"sometimes we do, unfortunately," replied his superior, Latissimus. "it shouldn't take long. I just need you to deliver something to a demon named Lykos Phoibos. can you do this?"
"yes, I... can."
Xavier wasn't extremely excited about going to the underworld. that's where all the dark angels go once they've strayed off the path of justice and righteousness. he didn't want that to rub off on him. being a good angel was his only purpose.
"all I have to do is deliver something to Lykos Phoibos. understood. it's not hard, Xavier. you can do it."
he sighed and made his way to the underworld portal that lurked quietly in the recesses of the cloud palace. just standing near it unsettled him.
the portal delivered him to an unspecified location.
"where am I...? oh right; I should look at the map that Latissimus gave me."
despite what it may seem like, the underworld was quite a lively place. wheras the angels who dwelled in heaven were quiet and stayed to themselves much of the time as they did their tasks, the underworld was full of rambunctious demons who danced and gambled dabbled in all kinds of sin and vice.
Xavier kept himself small and unassuming, wanting to not draw attention to himself.
"don't notice me, don't notice me...!"
Xavier being "nervous" was the understatement of the century. he clutched the delivery to his chest tightly, determined to keep it safe for Lykos.
"oi, angel!"
uh oh. keep walking; pretend you didn't hear, Xavier thought.
"hey, angel! didn't ya hear me...?" a hand with long nails landed on Xavier's shoulder.
the angel flinched and turned to the demon with wide eyes.
"woah, what's your problem? just askin' if you're lost or need some directions? you don't seem like ya been a
round here before."
"ah... yes. I suppose that's true. I'm looking for Lykos Phoibos."
"ohh, Mr. Phoibos! I know where to find him," said another, more friendly-looking demon. "follow me."
subsequently, the demon (named Alvis) and Xavier sat on a comfortable subway train, heading towards their destination. as expected, they drew attention because Xavier stuck out so much as the only angel on the train.
I hate the staring, he thought.
not far from the end station, Alvis continued to escort Xavier to Lykos Phoibos.
"here we are!"
"ah, thanks... Alvis. you're nice," said Xavier.
"no problem. I come around here a lot for some good food. not sure if you'd like it, though. angels are a bit more sensitive to certain spices than we are...!" Alvis flapped his wings and disappeared into the busy strip.
Xavier sighed. "right."
