"alright, you all. each of you had all around impressive scores," began Godbrand, "but of course, only one of you can take this job. and that is... Petra."
a female demons burned bright with excitement when she heard her name be called. she was the one with short brown hair and celebrated her victory, stepping forward. she gave a curtsey to the high ranking officials.
"I'm honored to take this job, Sir Godbrand, Lady Oriana," she said. "I'll do my best."
"she seems competent at least," Godbrand whispered to Oriana; his wife giggled and tossed a braid over her shoulder.
"yes, Baby, she does. now give her the file and let her get to work. you and me got somethin' to talk about." she winked.

Xavier was dealing with quite an amount of feelings and thoughts all at once... about several things. and he was also struggling to deal with a way to manage it all. maybe he just needed to get out of the mansion and take a walk? then, he was stopped by rationale - would that be a good idea with all the demons who know of his sentence and who were aware of his transgression?
perhaps he simply needed some food. as if on key, his stomach rumbled with the need for something to be in it. he made his way to the kitchen where the chef was. in general, the chef, Yuel, was large and standoffish and quiet, but he was a nice enough guy when you could pull more than two words out of him. Yuel was a master in the kitchen, and Xavier loved nothing more than to eat his food.
"Hi Yuel," greeted Xavier.
Yuel simply nodded in acknowledgement.
"what is there to eat?"
"have you finished all your chores?" asked Yuel. "you know Master hates it when they aren't done before you have leisure time."
"I know, but I really need this; you don't understand. I have some contemplating to do, and I can't do it on an empty stomach."
Yuel raised his brow, but said nothing. he took what was on the stove and plopped it on a plate, sitting right in front of the angel.
"t-thank you."
as Xavier was eating, he'd come up with a question to ask Yuel.
"uh, Yuel. are... um... are Lady Oriana and Sir Godbrand truly good demons?"
"wouldn't necessarily say 'good,' but they are nicer than the majority. for the most part, at least. sometimes, Master Godbrand can get scary. Mistress Oriana is more mischievous than scary, though. if you're curious about this Latissimus situation, I believe they're doing it for you. well, Mistress is, anyway. Godbrand is more so focused on the fact that Latissimus could be potentially dangerous to him, his wife, and to his beloved Province. he needs to keep an eye on troublesome figures. it's part of his job description as magistrate..." said Yuel.
"yeah, I get it."
Yuel put a large hand on Xavier's head, tussling his blonde hair.
"look, how about I tell you a little bit more about him?"
"about Godbrand?"
Yuel nodded. "he actually came from one of the worst corners of the Underworld - full of nothing but crime, poverty, and drugs."
"oh, I see. a rags to riches kind of thing?"
"something like that," replied Yuel. "for as long as he could remember, all he wanted to do was make his home a better place. very wholesome, I gotta say. it wasn't easy though. as he was growing up, he had to step on the heads a lot of demons to get to where he is now. you know, he tells me sometimes he wishes he could take it all back. but he can't. this is the price you pay to be on top."
Xavier exhaled. "wow. I guess I would've never known; Sir Godbrand doesn't talk much about himself."
Yuel continued. "it ended well for him, though. he won the hand of Lord Beelze's daughter and married her, and he became a prolific magistrate, transforming his home into one of the safest places in the Underworld with record-low crime."
"oh, wait! so you mean...?"
"yes, Master Godbrand was born and raised here, in Antonello. it's because of him that demons here don't know the meaning of 'suffering' anymore."
"that's every noble of him," said Xavier, in awe. "I think I had him all wrong. I can see why he threatened to castrate me when the whole drug fiasco went down. I... should go talk to him sometime soon." sometime soon... Xavier wasn't sure when that would be; there was still that awkward sexual tension that he didn't want to confront.
"thank you for sharing, Yuel. and thanks for the meal, too."
as he was walking from the kitchen to continue his work, he could've sworn that he noticed Yuel giving him a smile. but then again, his mind might just be making him see things.
