"Emerson!" Elite opens her eyes with a dumbfounded look. She's still in a jail cell. She was hoping this was all a terrible dream that she'd wake up from.
The cells are small. The beds are uncomfortable making it hard to get any sleep. The food is horrible and lacks variety.
She has a cellmate, but Elite hasn't talked to her much. Something tells her the woman in her thirties is a jailhouse informant trying to get a confession.
She's only been in jail a day but the time is passing really slowly. Minutes feel like hours and there's not much to do.
At least Elite's getting out of her cell again. She was held in jail overnight and now they're bringing her for the second interrogation. With cuffs on her wrists, Elite is taken by a guard.
The detectives are in crunch time. They need to try and get her to confess within a certain window. They only have so much time before they find out whether she gets bail or not. If she gets out awaiting trial they'll definitely never get to talk to her again.
They lucked up when her spews about not speaking without a lawyer didn't bring about anything. Elite called her brother asking him to hire one. He tried, but failed...
Epic ran into an issue: Not having enough funds to get a good attorney. Better yet, not having enough money to get one on retainer to last them through a long trial. With two murder charges he knows this'll be a long process, unless Elite confesses and pleads guilty. She has no plans of doing that. This trial could take years.
With everything that happened in the last year, they simply don't have the funds. It'll drain both their accounts or leave them in debt. It doesn't help Epic is still having medical problems.
He also informed Elite that things haven't blown over as far as the media storm. Her mugshot was posted to the internet and it went viral.
It's not everyday you see a murder suspect wearing the victim on a shirt. She was seen in it on the news when she was arrested and the mugshot. That resulted in Elite being added to the list of 'Prison Bae's'.
She was trending all over. There were many opinions. The original tweet that spread like wildfire read: She ate this mugshot up, but it's giving I did that shit!
Her 15 minutes just got extended as a murderous woman who allegedly offed her ex and his new girlfriend. It's becoming a high profile case.
Nonetheless, the news about the lawyer made Elite begin to panic. She had to think quick on her feet...
When they brought her in a room to question her for a second time, Elite's story began to change. The detective rapid-fired through questions and bounced through timelines wanting to confuse her. It partially worked because she became flustered wishing he'd just stop.
"There's no doubt in my mind that you're the one who took Shinobi and Sarahi's life," the detective points fingers. "What we're trying to determine is if you're a cold blooded killer or someone who got caught up in extreme circumstances. Maybe, just maybe, it was self-defense. I don't know, but you need to decide how you want to be portrayed..."
