The Madrigals were color coded, everyone knows that.

Alma wore a kinda mix of purple-red.

Julieta's side of the family wore cool colors: blues, indigos, and purples.

Pepa's family wore warm colors. Shades of red, orange, and yellow.

Only one person in the Madrigal family wore green.

Bruno.

And now apparently this girl.

Casandra.

Mirabel was watching through the cracked door as she looked at her mother and grandmother fuss over the girl.

She could hear her grandmother speaking to her mother, "She must be Brunito's daughter."

"Mama, you don't know that," Julieta told her mother as she took out the last piece from the girl's face.

"Julieta, she has a door. Casandra is a Madrigal, all Madrigals have a door," Abuela said with pride.

Mirabel felt a stab at her heart at that.

"She does certainly look like a Madrigal...." Julieta commented as she looked at her more closely, "If I didn't know any better I'd say she looked like...."

Mirabel pulled away sadly not wanting to hear anymore she walked away.

Every Madrigal has a door. She stopped in front of the new door.

Not Antonio's.

Casandra's.

Why.....Why.....WHY?!

Why did this person get a door?!

Mirabel punched the door. The glowing door that she should have too. Her hand throb in pain but nothing happened to the door.

Why?

She was a Madrigal too. Mirabel was more of a Madrigal even! Mirabel has lived in Casita all her life. She tried to help her family and town.

Why did this Casandra girl get a door but Mirabel didn't....

The door suddenly opened and a squeak was heard.

Mirabel blinked realizing she had tears in her eyes.

Dolores stood at Casandra's door.

"Mirabel in you ok-"

Mirabel ran away tears flowing down her cheeks. Eventually she reached to nursery where she broke down completely.

Why did the Miracle keep denying her?

.....

It was only much later that Mirabel would ask herself why Dolores had been in Casandra's room.

.....

The Madrigals were color coded, everyone knows that.

There were two halves of the family. The Julieta descended cool colored and the Pepa descended warm colored.

Dolores' children and grandchildren wore a variety of reds ranging from pink, maroon, crimson, bright cherry, scarlet, etc.

Camilo's twins had worn yellows and golds and passed it onto their kids as well.

While Antonio's sons and grandchildren had picked up on wearing various oranges, dark and bright.

Now Luisa's sons had of course worn dark blues with the elder son leaning more towards purple while the younger son royal blue and they passed that on to their sons.
