I didn't dream for the rest of the night.
When I woke up, I was in our comfy bed.
The overcast light from the outside illuminated the room, and the sound of the seagulls snag their song in the distance. It was as if the storm never happened in the first place.
"Yes, I know Catherine. As much as I would've loved to have put my work down, I just couldn't ignore a project like that. It was a launch and—."
The sound of Michael's voice slowly brought me back to a wakeful state. He sounded a little frustrated from the tone of his voice.
"I'm sorry but the reception is crap here, you know that... Well, we can go get breakfast ourselves and meet up with you both later if you want... I understand." He says while hearing him pace in the living room.
"No I... I actually had other plans as back up, but I wasn't expecting it to be today... I see... well, if you need me to pick up something— oh. Okay. I should be back by this evening, we can stop by and see you both then."
I carefully lifted myself out of bed, letting out a long shaking stretch when I hear his footsteps coming to the room.
"Sounds good... goodbye Catherine."
When he first walks into the room, our smiling eyes latched onto each other instantly.
As always he looked clean and polished, even if he was just wearing a plain black shirt and sweatpants. It was the way it was tailored so perfectly to his body, it made him always look so desirable. Perhaps the word I was looking for was... yummy.
"Good morning Darlin'." He walks over to sit next to me. "I would ask how you slept, but I guess the storm got you good."
"Yeah, sorry about that." I scratched the back of my neck nervously. "I didn't mean to scare you last night."
"Don't apologize for that Sweetheart." He leans in close to kiss the corner of my lip. "You got scared. Though, i do wish you would've just woken me up. You know I would've helped you."
I tried to...
"Yeah, I should have." I smiled softly. "Sorry."
"Are you alright though?" He presses. "I wasn't aware you were afraid of storms like that."
"I'm not exactly afraid of storms per say." I said. "I mean, Mother Nature can be scary sometimes, but what gets me is sudden loud sounds. It's a long story but, all I can say is that there's trauma behind it all. It's dumb honestly, but it is what it is."
"It's not dumb, and it's not a thing to just shrug about Darlin'. Everyone has a fear."
"Do you have a fear?" I asked doubtfully.
"Of course I have a fear." He rolls his eyes. "Doesn't mean I'm doing to tell you."
"But you know mine." I pressed jokingly. "Don't you think it's only fair?"
"Hmm let me think, No." He grins. "Now, seeing as you're now fully awake, go on and get cleaned up. It's past 11:00 and we're going to miss the cafe I wanted to go visit."
Past 11:00?! I panic.
"Oh crap!" I flung myself out of bed. "I'm so sorry! We missed breakfast!"
I could hear him telling me not to fret as I quickly looked through my bag for a change of clothes. I know he was just being polite about it but I'm sure he was hungry too just as I was.
Because of the lack of time we now currently have, I took no time at all to get into my outfit for the day.
I settled for a long black corduroy pinafore dress with an off white long sleeve underneath; I added on some black tights, black Chelsea boots and blew out my hair until it was dry and flat. By the time we needed to head out, I didn't even have time to throw on any makeup at all.
